About the job

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Controller to join our finance team. The Controller will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records and reports. This position offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment and contributes to the overall success of the organization. We are looking for someone who embraces the unexpected, thrives in providing context to the numbers, and is a team-centric player who can both roll up their sleeves and work in the details and also take a step back and think strategically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce accurate and timely financial records for the organization.
  • Oversee full cycle accounts receivable, accounts receivable, and credit card administration.
  • Manage all month-end close processes including booking journal entries for routine and judgmental areas. Perform variance analysis vs budget to ensure complete and accurate statements. This role will be hands-on booking journal entries.
  • Implement month-end close timeline and corresponding checklists to ensure timely completion and issuance of financial reports.
  • Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Maintain Balance Sheet accounts reconciled, with source documents available to support balances.
  • Prepare month-end and year-end financial statements, and management reports.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
  • Manage sales and income tax compliance and payments (currently utilizing Avalara tax software and 3rd party tax agency).
  • Manage weekly, monthly and fiscal year cash flows.
  • Work collaboratively to set fiscal year budgets and coordinate quarterly reforecasts.
  • Execute on internal and external audits as needed.
  • Run bi-weekly payroll and monthly commissions.
  • Assist with our HR team with benefits administration and other HR duties.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve accounting-related issues and provide support as necessary.
  • Drive process improvements and initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness within the finance function.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and best practices and recommend adjustments to policies and procedures as needed.

Software:

  • Experience of 1+ year in NetSuite highly preferred.
  • Experience of 2+ years in accounting software required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required ability to perform VLOOKUP, pivot tables, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices. GAAP experience required.
  • Experience performing accounting functions in e-commerce, wholesale and/or retail industry required.
  • 2+ years experience in a financial leadership role (manager or above).
  • 2+ years experience preparing financial reports required.
  • 1+ year reviewing financial reports required. Includes providing context in the form of variance analysis.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate with varying departments.

The base salary for this position is $125,000 - $175,000 dependent on number of years experience. Additional benefits include an annual bonus based on company performance, health, dental, STD & LTD benefits covered 100% for the employee and subsidized for dependents, a matching 401k, a generous PTO package and additional ancillary benefits.
