Early Career Pathways - Process Safety Internships

Location: TX, US, 77056

About Woodside Energy

We know great results come from our people feeling valued, getting the support they need to reach their full potential and working in a positive work environment. We recognise that enduring, meaningful relationships with communities are fundamental to maintaining our licence to operate.

Technology and innovation are essential to our long-term sustainability. We are growing our carbon and new energy businesses using technology to reduce emissions and the carbon footprint of our products. We are working to improve energy efficiency, offset emissions, reduce emissions intensity and explore options for lower-carbon energy. Woodside led the development of the LNG industry in Australia and is applying this same pioneering spirit to solving future energy challenges globally.

The Process Safety Summer Internship Program is part of Woodsideโ€™s USA Early Career Pathways initiative and is designed to build a sustainable pipeline of future process safety, engineering, risk, and operational assurance talent.

The program provides undergraduate students with handsโ€‘on, realโ€‘world experience supporting Woodsideโ€™s U.S. business through projectโ€‘based work focused on identifying, assessing, and managing risks associated with major accident hazards across energy operations and projects. Depending on business needs and academic background, interns may gain experience across process hazard analysis, hazard identification, risk assessment, barrier management, management of change, process safety information, incident investigation, emergency response planning, regulatory compliance, operational risk, process safety performance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Interns may also gain exposure to process safety tools and methodologies such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOP), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), bowtie analysis, risk registers, safetyโ€‘critical equipment and controls, and preโ€‘startup safety reviews. Interns will work alongside experienced process safety, engineering, HSE, operations, maintenance, project, and risk professionals while developing technical, analytical, communication, and problemโ€‘solving capabilities. They will also gain exposure to Woodsideโ€™s operating environment, process safety culture, and approach to managing risk across LNG and deepwater oil assets.

The internship serves as a primary feeder into Woodsideโ€™s future graduate and earlyโ€‘career programs and supports Woodsideโ€™s broader workforce and capability planning strategy in the United States.
