At Good Carbon Co, we believe good work starts with good people. As a rapidly growing leader in sustainable real estate development and construction, we're not just imagining a better future - we're building it. From development to construction to property management - we do it all, and you can help us shape what's next.
Why You'll Love Working Here:
  • Collaborative, values-driven culture where every voice matters
  • Clear opportunities for professional growth and advancement
  • Flexibility and support for work-life balance
  • Regular team events and community initiatives
  • Comprehensive benefits: Employer-contributed medical and dental insurance; vision coverage; company 401(k) contributions; paid holidays and PTO-including your birthday!

About the role
The Finance & Accounting role is a hybrid position spanning development, construction, and property management. The position combines ownership of a defined property portfolio with broad exposure to corporate accounting, construction finance, and investment analysis.
Designed as a developmental role, this position provides both structured and flexible experience across the organization's four core business lines-Core, Curation, Construction, and Community. The role is intentionally structured with approximately 50% dedicated to property accounting responsibilities and 50% allocated to cross-functional and at-large initiatives, with the goal of developing well-rounded, high-impact finance professionals.
What you'll do
Core Responsibilities (Property Accounting - ~50%)
  • Manage accounting for an assigned portfolio of properties
  • Own monthly close processes, including:
    • Preparation of journal entries
    • Account reconciliations
    • Accruals and adjusting entries
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including variance analysis
  • Perform bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Partner closely with Property Management to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes for assigned properties
  • Maintain compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and reporting standards

Cross-Functional & Rotational Responsibilities (~50%)
  • Support corporate accounting and shared services initiatives, including ad hoc reporting and process improvements
  • Assist with fixed asset management, including capitalization, tracking, and depreciation-particularly for construction and renovation projects
  • Partner with the Construction team to support project accounting, cost tracking, and financial reporting
  • Provide analytical and financial modeling support for cash forecasting considering the business as a whole
  • Contribute to initiatives related to sustainability and green investments (e.g., battery storage, geothermal systems, and other incentive-driven projects)
  • Take ownership of special projects and at-large assignments aligned with business priorities and individual development goals

Development & Growth Expectations
  • Develop cross-functional expertise across Core, Curation, Construction, and Community business lines
  • Progress toward a specialized or leadership role within accounting, construction finance, investments, or operations

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of accounting, finance, or relevant experience (real estate experience preferred but not required)
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and financial statements
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across both recurring and project-based work
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions

The pay range for this role is:
65,000 - 85,000 USD per year (Buffalo, NY)
