SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in (Norfolk Virginia) is a shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Truck Driver.

Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled Driver responsible for transporting coworkers or equipment in a timely manner. Position may include nights and weekends to accomplish duties. Common qualifications and skills for drivers are to:

Qualifications:

  • A valid CDL class C with Hazmat Endorsement and good driving record is required
  • Certification in 49 CFR 170-178 DOT Hazardous Materials or attain certification within 2 months of employment to sign shipping documents such as hazardous waste manifests and Bill of Lading for transporting hazardous materials. SBSBTC can provide in-house certification
  • Ability to operate vehicles including vans, pickup trucks, flatbed trucks, and other equipment safely and efficiently
  • Able to effectively operate a manual transmission
  • Ability to operate and maneuver vehicles with trailers
  • Load securement including appropriately loading and fastening various sizes and shapes of equipment to trucks and trailers
  • Interior and exterior cleanliness of the car
  • Stay on top of necessary vehicle and equipment maintenance
  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees
  • Report any issues

Minimum DOT Requirements for Drivers

  • A valid, non-commercial driver's license
  • A valid CDL class C with Hazmat Endorsement
  • Understand DOT drum closure requirements, incompatible material, proper labeling, and placarding
  • Good driving record
  • Have a minimum of one to two years of driving experience
  • Have no active suspensions
  • Have a valid medical examiner's certificate.
  • Map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip
  • Listen to traffic and weather reports to stay up to date on road conditions
  • Adjust the route to avoid heavy traffic or road constructions, as needed

Skills:

  • Proven experience as a Driver
  • A valid driver's license, Class C CDL, and Hazmat Endorsement
  • A clean driving records
  • Familiarity with GPS devices
  • Knowledge of area roads and neighborhoods
  • Ability to lift heavy equipment
  • Availability to occasionally take weekend and night shifts

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • This position is labor intensive, requires lifting, loading and pushing/pulling more than 45 pounds repeatedly during work hours
  • It also requires reaching, squatting, and bending
  • The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely

Successful completion of a pre-employment background and substance screening process including, but not limited to, employment verifications, criminal search and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) search as well continued verifications throughout employment to ensure that all records meet company policy standards
