Job description

The Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport is looking to add a Full-time Banquet Captain/Supervisor to its team. Our upscale, full-service hotel features 194 guest rooms, 24,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, a full-service restaurant Altitude along with a We Proudly Serve Starbucks cafรฉ. Managed by Reliance Hospitality, our hotel is the only full-service/upscale hotel located near the General Mitchell International Airport. The hotel benefits from its proximity to the airport, 10-minute drive to downtown, along with access to businesses in nearby business parks, Oak Creek, and the surrounding area. Our hotel features the most meeting space outside of downtown Milwaukee, and our ballroom can accommodate up to 1,000 people.
The Banquet Captain is responsible for supervising and assisting with the setup, service, and cleanup of all assigned banquet functions. Must be available to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and possibly holidays. The pay would be $10.00 - $13.00 per hour plus commissions (with commissions added in pay is on average $16.00 per hour+) and a $200.00 hiring bonus after 60 days.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing the proper uniform and name tag when working.
  • Comply at all times with hotel service standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Must at all times be attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and fellow employees.
  • Inspect the setup of meeting and banquet functions, checking them against the Banquet Event Order (BEO).
  • Supervise and assist with the setup of assigned catered functions, ensuring that the hotel's standards are met, and advance preparation for service is adequate to allow efficient service to the guest once the function begins.
  • Act as liaison between the Sales/Catering manager and the in house meeting or banquet contact.
  • Respond to guests' needs in a timely manner. Communicate problems, issues to the Banquet Manager or the Food and Beverage Manager.
  • Assist Banquet Manager/F&B Manager with the creation of the banquet work schedule and completion of banquet wage progress reports.
  • Assist in the service of functions as needed.
  • Requisition liquor for all banquet bars and maintain proper control over banquet beverage service.
  • Supervise and assist the breakdown after the completion of functions to ensure that all equipment and supplies are stored properly.
  • Inspect the sanitation of all function space and storage areas to maintain the highest standard of cleanliness and organization throughout the department.
  • Follow all state liquor laws.
  • Be familiar with banquet menus and prices.
  • Supervise buffet staff as directed by the Banquet Manager or F&B Manager.
  • Hold pre-function meetings, and check staffing and menus, prior to events.
  • Assign side-work duties and stations to all servers.
  • Supervise service of station and banquet room.
  • Prepare banquet checks and obtain signatures from guests' contacts.
  • Monitor ongoing functions throughout the assigned shift.
  • Supervise the breakdown and cleanup of all functions assigned.
  • Verify the server's paperwork when the event is completed.
  • Prepare accurate captain reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Previous supervisory responsibility preferred
  • Previous experience in banquets preferred, but not required
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
  • Highly responsible and reliable
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times
  • Flexible and long hours sometimes required
  • Ability to be constantly be standing, walking and sitting throughout shift
  • Occasional kneeling, pushing, pull or lifting
  • Ability to frequently lift/carry up to 50 Ibs.
