GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Communications Electronic Technician III: Performs highly complex (seniorlevel) technical work to configure, program, install, maintain, and repair electronic Land Mobile Radio (LMR) communications equipment, installing and operating digital and analog telecommunications components and interoperability equipment. May train others in installation, use, maintenance and troubleshooting of electronic and hardware components used in police vehicles, as well as complex LMR communications equipment. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Communications Electronic Technician IV: Performs advanced and/or supervisory (seniorlevel) technical work to configure, program, install, maintain and repair electronic Land Mobile Radio (LMR) communications equipment, installing and operating digital and analog LMR components and interoperability equipment. May train others in installation, use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electronic and hardware components used in police vehicles, as well as complex LMR communications equipment. May develop templates and best practices to facilitate progress of interoperable communications goals and objectives. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.
Communications Electronic Technician V: Performs highly advanced (seniorlevel) Land Mobile Radio (LMR) communications work. Work involves planning, designing, integrating, maintaining, and/or overseeing the installation of LMR system components for voice, data, digital, and wireless communications. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communications Electronic Technician III:
1. Installs twoway mobile, base station, repeater control, and LMR communications equipment at fixed sites throughout the state. Configures and maintains pointtopoint digital microwave radios, and associated multiplex communications components, control consoles, and digital "ROIP" remote stations control units at dispatch centers and remote sites.
2. Performs routine maintenance, modifications, troubleshooting, alignments, and repairs of highly integrated microprocessorcontrolled analog and P25 conventional radio systems with digital encryption, base stations, repeater controls, repeaters, microwaves, control consoles, twoway mobile and portable radios, wireless mobile data systems, mobile video, and other associated equipment.
3. Performs routine maintenance, modifies, troubleshoots, aligns, and repairs mobile emergency lighting systems, traffic directing arrow sticks, headlight wig wags, shotgun and rifle locks, antitheft devices, K9 over temperature wireless warning devices, and video recording systems consisting of digital DVR recorders, windshield mounted camera, remote monitor, wireless microphone, interior overhead mounted controls, emergency equipment wiring harness power distribution panels and other related equipment.
4. Performs routine maintenance, install, troubleshoot, and repair or replace Global Positioning System receiving equipment. Uses conventional and specialized test equipment, hand tools, schematic diagrams, design drawings, manuals, and personal knowledge to modify, troubleshoot, align, and repair Law Enforcement electronic equipment.
5. Utilizes personal computers to create design drawings and schematics for shop use; program channel frequencies, options, features, and/or align portable, mobile, base station, repeater radios and control stations; program communications console parameters, and other microprocessorcontrolled LMR communications equipment.
6. Operates state vehicle as assigned to perform installs, troubleshoot, repair equipment at locations as needed.
7. Stages, deploys and supports emergency communications equipment as required.
8. Assembles and installs mobile data information terminals and tracking equipment. Troubleshoots and repairs equipment associated with mobile data systems.
9. Installs, aligns, troubleshoots and repairs tower light malfunction detecting equipment at tower sites and alerting equipment at dispatch centers.
10. Uses intermediate knowledge of conventional and specialized test equipment, hand tools, schematic diagrams, design drawings, manuals, and personal knowledge to modify, troubleshoot, align, and repair analog and digital electronics.
11. Documents inventoried equipment as it is installed or removed from service by completing property transfers to appropriate budget codes. Works with parts clerks, procuring & asset management.
12. Provides groundlevel assistance to tower technicians to install, troubleshoot, and repair base station, repeater, control, and microwave antennas and transmission lines.
13. Assists with developing maintenance and testing procedures for new and complex communications and electronic equipment.
14. Operates state vehicles as assigned to perform installations, troubleshoot, and repair equipment at locations throughout the state as needed.
15. Attends workshops, seminars, and manufacturers' schools regarding specific equipment as assigned.
16. Performs radio infrastructure site maintenance.
17. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Communications Electronic Technician IV :
1. Coordinates the planning and preparation for LMR communications equipment and networks.
2. Performs various types of maintenance modifying, troubleshooting, aligning, and repairing LMR communications equipment and associated networks.
3. Modifies, troubleshoots, aligns, repairs and performs routine maintenance on mobile emergency lighting systems, traffic directing arrow sticks, headlight wig wags, shotgun and rifle locks, antitheft devices, K9 over temperature wireless warning devices, and video recording systems consisting of a digital DVR recorders, windshield mounted camera, remote monitor, wireless microphone, interior overhead mounted controls, emergency equipment, wiring harness power distribution panels and other related equipment.
4. Troubleshoots, repairs, tests, installs, and customizes LMR communications equipment to support the communication network.
5. Develops templates and best practices to facilitate progress towards interoperable communications goals and objectives.
6. Coordinates the preventative maintenance of LMR communications equipment and networks. Responsible for associated software and supporting equipment.
7. Oversees and/or communicate with contractors and telephone companies used throughout the LMR communication network concerning proper operation, installation, and maintenance of lines, data equipment, and associated terminals.
8. Installs twoway mobile, base station, repeater control, and repeater site LMR communications equipment at fixed sites throughout the state.
9. Maintains microwave and LMR communications control consoles at dispatch centers and remote controlled base station sites throughout the state.
10. Organizes and establishes operating controls and procedures for the LMR communication system.
11. Uses advanced knowledge of conventional and specialized test equipment, hand tools, schematic diagrams, design drawings, manuals, and personal knowledge to modify, troubleshoot, align, and repair analog and digital electronics.
12. Stages, deploys and supports emergency communications equipment.
13. Installs, aligns, troubleshoots and repairs tower light indicating and malfunction detecting equipment at tower sites and alerting equipment at dispatch centers.
14. Designs and constructs special electronic and test equipment that is not available as a manufactured unit.
15. Develops maintenance and testing procedures for new and complex communications and electronic equipment.
16. Trains technicians in applying troubleshooting, alignment, and repair procedures and serves as a project leader on specific tasks involving other technicians.
17. Tests, evaluates, and reports findings regarding newly developed equipment so that recommendations regarding its acquisition and use can be made.
18. Drives state vehicles as assigned to perform installations, troubleshoot, and repair equipment at locations throughout the state as needed.
19. Performs radio infrastructure site maintenance.
20. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Communications Electronic Technician V :
1. Proficient in advanced troubleshooting, repairing, testing, installing, and customizing communication equipment to support the communication network and associated networks.
2. Adept at expertlevel maintenance, modification and alignment of equipment and related networks, with a focus on associated software and supporting components.
3. Perform routine maintenance, modifies, troubleshoots, aligns, and repairs mobile emergency lighting systems, traffic directing arrow sticks, headlight wig wags, shotgun and rifle locks, antitheft devices, K9 over temperature wireless warning devices, and video recording systems consisting of a digital DVR recorders, windshield mounted camera, remote monitor, wireless microphone, interior overhead mounted controls, emergency equipment wiring harness power distribution panels and other related equipment.
4. Oversee and/or plan, schedule, and implement a LMR communications system, while being able to perform the installation and maintenance of LMR communications networks, computer hardware, and evaluate LMR Communications system plans for completeness and accuracy.
5.Design, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain the local and wide area networks including routers, switches, gateways, and applications servers integrated into the LMR Communications network.
6. Oversee and/or communicate with contractors and telephone companies used throughout the LMR communication network concerning proper operation, installation, and maintenance of lines, data equipment, and associated terminals.
7. Provide input in the development of operational or administrative policies and procedures related to RF communications systems.
8. Research and determine budgetary requirements for LMR Communications system.
9. Conduct major studies regarding system usage, make recommendations for improvements, and determine LMR Communications system requirements.
10. Use of expert knowledge in conventional and specialized test equipment, hand tools, schematic diagrams, design drawings, manuals, and personal knowledge to modify, troubleshoot, align, and repair analog and digital electronics.
11. Train technicians in applying troubleshooting, alignment, and repair procedures, and serves as project leaders on specific tasks involving other technicians.
12. Stage, deploy, and supports emergency communications equipment.
13. May provide perform supervisory duties on a relief basis during absences of the supervisor.
14. Operate state vehicles as assigned to perform installations, troubleshoot, and repair equipment at locations throughout the state as needed.
15. Perform radio infrastructure site maintenance.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Education Graduation from an accredited twoyear college with major in electronic technology or graduation from an accredited military, vocational, or technical school of electronics is preferred.
Experience
Communication Electronics Technician III :Minimum of six (6) years' extensive experience in programming, maintaining, and repairing twoway radio communications and electronic equipment (sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform effectively at the Communications Electronic Technician III level).
Communication Electronics Technician IV :Minimum of eight (8) years' extensive work experience in programming, maintaining, and repairing twoway radio communications and electronic equipment.
Communication Electronics Technician V :Minimum of twelve (12) years' extensive work experience in programming, maintaining, and repairing twoway radio communications and electronic equipment.

Licensure and/or Certification Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence.
