Job description

First Merchants Bank is seeking a Director, Debt Capital Markets to join our team! This position will partner with the Managing Director, Debt Capital Markets to support and implement the growth strategies to facilitate the distribution of syndicated credit facilities, establish and grow key relationships with partner banks, and acquire/manage a portfolio of syndicated loans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Active in-person calling program with existing Bank Partners and on Bank Prospects.
    1. Ability to Interface with Senior Executives at Partner Banks to articulate First Merchants expertise and capabilities in leading transactions.
    2. Understand our Bank Partners underwriting and return criteria by asset class.
    3. Understand our Bank Partners approval process and response time to FMB opportunities.
    4. Maintain tracking database on Bank Partners.
  2. Assist with management of individual sell side transactions through the Syndication process.
    1. Identify potential universe of Banks who might partner on a given opportunity.
    2. Manage Early Assessment process with identified banks.
    3. Manage communication with banks as deal moves through Syndication process.
    4. Communicate with Structure team and Relationship Managers on feedback from Banks on in market opportunities.
    5. Contributor to Credit Information Memorandum and Confidential Flash Memorandum.
  3. Assist in the Loan Structuring of New Opportunities based on knowledge gained from working with Bank Partners and Bank Prospects.
  4. Schedule and participate in calls with Managing Director, Debt Capital Markets.
  5. Manage Approved Bank Partner list including criteria to add or remove Partners.
  6. Contribute to the development of marketing/collateral material for Debt Capital Markets.
  7. Utilize bank reporting tools to ensure syndication exposure are properly documented and tracked, and prepare various scheduled management reports.
  8. Assist with projects and in developing new or refining existing efficiencies and processes as required.
  9. Remain current with all applicable regulations.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, marketing, mathematics or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relationship management, capital markets, or related experiences in the financial services industry.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in business administration
  • Previous experience with Syndicated Credit Facilities including loan documentation for commercial and real estate companies is a plus.
