Job description

  1. Set up equipment when necessary and prepare patient for examination.
  2. Select the proper transducer, both type and frequency for examination.
  3. Obtain, review and retrieve pertinent patient history, physical exam and supporting clinical data to facilitate the physician in making the diagnosis.
  4. Positions patient on examination table and adjusts immobilization devices as required to obtain optimum views of specified area of the body requested by physician as determined by department policy and procedure.
  5. Provide explanation of procedures and answer pertinent questions of patients to reduce                anxieties and obtain cooperation
  6. Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to   insure safety and comfort while preparing for and while undergoing ultrasound procedures
  7. Requisitions supplies and equipment, maintenance and repair services, and prepares related forms necessary for the continued operation of the department.
  8. Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency using and/or modifying established procedures, to assure timely completion of work in conformance with department policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates ultrasound images for technical quality.
  • Maintain adequate radiology records and label all images to assure proper identification.
  • Assist physician with special ultrasound procedures/needle biopsies.
  • Instructs specific units of didactic and/or clinical education the ultrasound program.
  1. Maintain a thorough knowledge of departmental and Hospital policies and Procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans.  Comply with Infection Control policies and procedures.
  2. Participates in activities which promote professional self-growth and development; meeting minimum requirements for continuing education.
  3. Maintain an ethical relationship with patients, physicians, personnel and guests and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  4. Performs other work related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
  • Credentialed by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) (must take and pass ARDMS registry within 6 months of hire)
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound Technology.
  • Registered in both Abdomen and OB/GYN by ARDMS within one year of hire.
  • BLS
  • All certifications and registrations must be maintained, active and current.
