Job description

Radiology Assistant

Performs various duties assisting Technologists in the treatment and care of Diagnostic Imaging/Radiation Therapy patients in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assistant will not perform, under any circumstances, radiographic procedures or therapy treatments.

Assists members of the Radiology/Radiation Team in maintaining the department schedule by transporting patients, maintaining supplies and equipment, maintaining the substerile/utility areas, changing over exposure/treatment rooms, and assists in the radiographic exposure rooms, file room, and darkroom. Transports patients for the Department as directed. Assists as required in transporting patients within the various imaging/treatment areas. Assists in turnover of rooms as assigned or directed. Assists Technologist with stocking and supplying Exposure Rooms. Assists in starting procedures, transferring patients, and supporting patients for radiographic/radiation procedures as directed. Assists patients in preparing for radiographic/radiation procedures as requested. Restocks and maintains substerile/utility areas as assigned or directed. Assists in the care and handling of delicate, sophisticated, expensive equipment, i.e., angiographic, and specialty equipment. Maintains the equipment storeroom in a neat and tidy manner. Assumes responsibility for telephone communications for on-call technologists during evening and night hours, or as directed. Inventory and restock M/S supplies in the storeroom and exposure/treatment rooms as per par levels. Assists in maintaining adequate inventories of supplies through accurate reporting of shortages, damaged or defective equipment. Adheres to safety blood/body fluid and radiation safety policies and procedures. Verifies patient identification and communicates with them on the status of their examination. Processes digital images as requested by providers to CD or DVD format. Assists in orientation of other personnel to the unit under the direction of management/supervisor. Represents the hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters by representing the hospital in a manner that will best market the services provided. Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her supervisor. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects Cape Cod Hospital's commitment to CARES: compassion, accountability, respect, excellence and service.

Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Certified Nursing Assistant Program or equivalent (EMT, LPN, completion of one year of nursing school program which includes two semesters of clinical practice; military corps person) or minimum of 1 year experience as Radiology Assistant/Aide or currently enrolled in a degree program in Radiologic Technology. Current BLS certification. Successful completion of CPI training within 6 months of hire and maintain recertification annually.

Schedule Details: 32 Hours Per Week, Rotating Nights, 11p-7a or 12a-8a, Every Other Weekend & Rotating Holidays
