What are the typical collaborative dynamics between Cape Cod Emergency Physicians and other hospital departments during a shift?

Cape Cod Emergency Physicians regularly collaborate with nurses, specialists, lab technicians, and hospitalists to ensure timely patient care. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as physicians often coordinate with radiology for diagnostic imaging, consult with surgeons or cardiologists for acute cases, and work closely with nursing staff to monitor patient status. This multidisciplinary environment promotes rapid decision-making but can also present challenges in managing multiple priorities and ensuring efficient patient flow. Being adaptable and proactive in communication helps foster positive working relationships and high-quality outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Emergency Physician, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Emergency Physician, you need board certification in emergency medicine, strong diagnostic skills, and the ability to manage acute and life-threatening conditions. Familiarity with advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), trauma protocols, and electronic medical record (EMR) systems is essential. Exceptional decision-making, composure under pressure, and effective communication are vital soft skills in this role. These skills are critical to delivering rapid, high-quality care and ensuring optimal outcomes in unpredictable, high-stress environments.

Are you a passionate veterinary technician ready to advance your emergency and critical care skills? At Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists, we’re expanding—and looking for dedicated, compassionate nurses to join our growing specialty ER team. Here, your expertise will directly impact pets and families facing urgent medical situations, while you continue to grow and refine your clinical abilities in a cutting-edge specialty environment.

 Why Join Us?
Our Emergency and Critical Care (ECC) team thrives on collaboration, high standards, and continuous learning. You’ll work alongside experienced clinicians, gaining hands-on experience with advanced procedures and technologies, from pain management and system monitoring to transfusions and mechanical ventilation.

As we grow to meet the increasing needs of Cape Cod and the surrounding islands, you’ll play an essential role in helping care for our community’s pets and their families when they need it most.

 About the Role
  • Work 4 x 10-hour shifts, including days, swings, weekends, and holiday rotations
    • These shifts may be split between the Buzzards Bay and Dennis locations.
  • Be a key player in the emergency team: from triage and stabilization to inpatient care and discharge
  • Provide advanced nursing care to critically ill patients, using your technical skills and compassionate advocacy
  • Collaborate closely with veterinarians and colleagues to deliver gold-standard care under fast-paced conditions
Your Day-to-Day
  • Conduct emergency triage, gather vitals, and obtain health histories using EMRs
  • Assist in stabilizing and monitoring critical patients on arrival and during hospitalization
  • Execute technical nursing duties: venipuncture, IV catheter placement, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia monitoring
  • Support clinicians during procedures with induction, prep, monitoring, and recovery
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with team members and pet owners
What We’re Looking For
  • Current CVT, LVT, or RVT (or ability to obtain licensure within 6 months)
  • Veterinary emergency experience is essential; anesthesia and emergency procedure monitoring preferred
  • RECOVER certification and/or VTS ECC credentials a plus (or a strong desire to pursue specialization)
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • A calm, adaptable mindset with strong critical thinking and teamwork abilities
What We Offer
  • Compensation range: $22 - $32/hr
    • Most new hires can expect an offer based on experience, expertise, and alignment with comparable positions within the hospital, typically between the minimum and the midpoint of the range.
  • Sign-on bonus up to $2,500
  • Paid PTO, holidays, medical/dental/vision/life insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Generous continuing education program including VTS training and mentorship
  • Uniform allowance and company-paid Trupanion pet insurance for two pets
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for support and well-being
