Electoral Canvas Lead

Salary Range $24.00 - $24.00 Hourly Position Type Seasonal

Position Summary

The Canvass Lead supports the work of MF Professional Services, Inc. and its clients, including Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia en Accin, by coordinating daily canvassing activities designed to increase civic participation, voter registration, voter education, and political engagement within Latino communities. This position provides day-to-day direction, training, coaching, and field support to a team of approximately four to five canvassers. The Canvass Lead assigns turf, distributes materials, communicates daily goals, monitors field activity, reviews data, and submits required reports. The Canvass Lead also engages directly with community members and voters through door-to-door canvassing, voter-registration activities, and other approved outreach. This position requires substantial outdoor work, frequent walking, flexible scheduling, accurate recordkeeping, and strict compliance with applicable voter-registration, voter-engagement, safety, and data-management requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The employee will perform the essential duties described below in support of MF Professional Services, Inc. and its clients, including Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia en Accin, as assigned by MF Professional Services, Inc.-authorized management.

Canvassing and Community Engagement

Canvass designated Latino communities and assigned geographic areas. Engage community members and voters regarding voter registration, voter education, voting by mail, Get Out the Vote activities, and other approved civic engagement initiatives. Support approved efforts to identify and engage voters and increase Latino voter participation. Use only approved scripts, talking points, forms, literature, and calls to action. Provide accurate, non-misleading, and approved information to community members. Communicate respectfully and professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Respect requests from individuals who decline participation or ask that outreach end. Refer legal, policy, media, complaint, or other complex questions to the appropriate supervisor. Protect voter and community-member privacy and handle all forms and contact information securely. Represent MF Professional Services, Inc. and its clients professionally in communities and public locations.

Daily Canvass Operations

Manage the daily activities of an assigned canvassing team of approximately four to five employees. Prepare the assigned office or staging location before employees arrive. Welcome employees and conduct daily pre-shift briefings. Review daily goals, schedules, turf, scripts, materials, reporting expectations, safety information, and applicable campaign updates. Ensure canvassers understand their assignments and responsibilities before beginning field activities. Prepare and distribute literature, voter-registration materials, clipboards, mobile devices, identification, and other approved supplies. Coordinate employee deployment, breaks, check-ins, transportation, and return times. Monitor daily progress and adjust assignments within delegated authority. Ensure employees return from assigned turf and complete all end-of-shift procedures. Promptly communicate staffing shortages, delays, incidents, or resource needs to the supervisor.

Turf Preparation and Assignment

Create or cut daily turf for door-to-door canvassing, voter registration, and other approved outreach. Use VAN, MiniVAN, maps, spreadsheets, or other approved tools to prepare and distribute assignments. Confirm that assigned turf aligns with approved campaign targets, geographic boundaries, and outreach plans. Provide canvassers with clear directions, maps, access instructions, check-in expectations, and safety information. Track turf assignments, completion status, coverage, and unresolved issues. Identify duplicate, incomplete, inaccessible, or otherwise problematic turf and communicate concerns to the appropriate supervisor or data employee. Ensure voter information and turf materials are provided only to authorized employees and used solely for approved purposes. Collect and secure printed and electronic voter information at the end of each shift.

Team Training, Coaching, and Motivation

Develop and coordinate canvasser training activities in collaboration with management. Provide timely onboarding and field training to new team members. Train canvassers on approved scripts, voter-registration procedures, outreach techniques, data collection, technology, safety, and reporting. Conduct daily post-shift debriefings with the team and individual canvassers. Assess canvassers' knowledge, skills, performance, and development needs. Provide regular feedback, coaching, retraining, and field demonstrations. Encourage and motivate team members to meet or exceed approved daily goals while maintaining quality, accuracy, and compliance. Reinforce respectful communication, ethical outreach, accurate information, and proper documentation. Support authorized employee-recognition and team-engagement activities. Identify employees who require additional supervisory or performance support. Promptly report significant performance, attendance, conduct, safety, or compliance concerns to management. Foster a professional, inclusive, diverse, respectful, and accountable team environment.

Data Entry, Quality Control, and Reporting

Review canvassing reports, voter-registration documentation, commitment cards, contact results, and other required records for completeness and accuracy. Enter or upload approved canvassing results into VAN, spreadsheets, databases, or other designated systems. Submit complete and timely nightly reports documenting doors knocked, successful contacts, commitment cards, voter-registration activity, and other assigned metrics. Prepare tally reports and required weekly reporting updates. Reconcile reported activity with collected forms, system records, turf completion, and employee reports. Identify missing, duplicate, incomplete, inconsistent, or potentially inaccurate information and promptly seek clarification. Follow all established data-entry, coding, quality-control, and reporting procedures. Maintain accurate custody and tracking records for voter-registration forms and other sensitive materials. Promptly report lost, damaged, incomplete, altered, or potentially mishandled forms or data. Submit reports and materials to the State Director or other designated supervisor within established deadlines. Protect confidential voter, community, employee, and organizational information.

Voter-Registration Compliance

Follow all applicable state and local laws, regulations, deadlines, and procedures concerning voter registration and voter engagement. Ensure canvassers complete required training before handling voter-registration forms or conducting regulated activities. Follow organizational procedures governing voter-registration form custody, review, tracking, storage, and timely submission. Ensure voter-registration forms are never altered, discarded, withheld, falsified, or used for an unauthorized purpose. Ensure outreach is conducted accurately, ethically, respectfully, and without coercion or misrepresentation. Promptly escalate questions concerning voter eligibility, form completion, registration requirements, or applicable law. Immediately report suspected falsification, misconduct, data manipulation, form mishandling, or other compliance concerns. Cooperate with quality-control reviews, audits, investigations, and corrective-action processes. Ensure activities appropriately distinguish between and align with the legally permissible work of Mi Familia Vota and Mi Familia en Accin.

Transportation and Field Safety

Transport assigned canvassers and authorized materials when driving responsibilities are assigned and approved. Operate personal or organizational vehicles safely and in accordance with applicable law and organizational requirements. Ensure employees understand field safety, check-in, emergency, weather, heat, and incident-reporting procedures. Monitor weather, environmental, neighborhood, traffic, animal, and other conditions that may affect employee safety. Maintain regular communication with canvassers during field activities. Promptly respond to missed check-ins, safety concerns, confrontations, injuries, vehicle incidents, or emergencies. Stop or modify field activity and contact management when conditions present a potential safety risk. Report workplace injuries, threats, harassment, accidents, law-enforcement interactions, and other significant incidents immediately. Follow applicable driver, passenger, seat-belt, vehicle-safety, and distracted-driving requirements. Use equipment and materials safely and report damaged or unsafe equipment.

Political and Community Awareness

Maintain working knowledge of the political, electoral, demographic, and community landscape within the assigned service area. Stay informed about approved organizational issues, campaigns, programs, and voter-engagement priorities. Participate in required campaign briefings, trainings, and program updates. Communicate community feedback, emerging issues, and recurring questions to management. Avoid presenting personal political opinions as official organizational positions. Use only current, approved organizational messaging when communicating with the public.

Timekeeping and Administrative Responsibilities

Accurately record all time worked and submit timekeeping records according to established deadlines. Review assigned team attendance or timekeeping information within delegated authority. Report late arrivals, absences, missed breaks, schedule deviations, or potential timekeeping concerns to the supervisor. Ensure employees are not instructed or permitted to work before clocking in or after clocking out. Maintain organized records concerning staffing, assignments, materials, reports, incidents, and follow-up needs. Organize and prioritize daily responsibilities and workflow. Attend required meetings, trainings, briefings, and professional-development activities. Communicate clearly and consistently with supervisors, data employees, program employees, and other field leaders. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: A specific degree is not required. Relevant education, training, campaign experience, community experience, and demonstrated field leadership will be considered.

Experience

Campaign, canvassing, voter-registration, community outreach, field organizing, or civic engagement experience required. Experience providing day-to-day direction, training, coaching, or support to a canvassing or outreach team preferred. Experience using VAN, MiniVAN, or another voter-contact or canvassing system preferred. Experience preparing turf, monitoring field
