Job description

Alene Candles LLC & Midwest is a private label, contract manufacturer that produces high-quality candles for some of the world’s most recognized retail, boutique, and cosmetic brands. With our headquarters in New Hampshire and locations in Ohio, we’ve been in business for over 25 years. The Position

Alene Candles is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager to provide full-time environmental, health and safety leadership, inspiration, and management for all Alene Candle locations. This position will be based at our New Albany, OH facility, but will also be responsible for our Milford, NH facilities as well. Travel expectations (domestic travel only) for this position are 30% of the time.

We are looking for someone who can see the big picture, build on our safety first culture, and find new and innovative ways to ensure our employees are working as safely as possible. You will lead a team of three to help meet these goals.

You will be responsible for overseeing the development, management, and execution of a world class environmental and safety program that meets or exceeds all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with various departmental leaders and senior leadership members. You will work in conjunction with the Human Resources Department to oversee workers’ compensation cases to help minimize the severity and potential for repeat occurrences, as well as support the development and coordination of safety related training programs. You will oversee the completion of risk assessments, audits, and loss prevention. This position requires collaboration with third party representatives. You will be required to work with remote teams and will directly supervise remote employees. You will be responsible for promoting safe and healthy work environments for all Alene Candles employees, contractors, and visitors.

The Location

We are located at 8860 Smith's Mill Road, New Albany, OH. This is an onsite position.

  • Provide leadership, strategy, and guidance to ensure compliance with legal requirements pertaining to manufacturing environmental health and safety.
  • Understand and implement federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Lead the development of a fully compliant Alene Candle corporate level environmental management and safety program.
  • Work directly with the Human Resources Department to actively manage all workers’ compensation cases to minimize the severity and impact to our insurance mod rate.
  • Lead the Corporate Safety Council to provide overall leadership to all Alene locations and their safety committees.
  • Actively support business objectives in relation to environmental, health and safety concerns
  • Work directly with Plant Managers and other site leaders to establish a culture of Safety First with the proper policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Lead the effort to fully implement the DuPont STOP program for behavior-based safety.
  • Practice safe working techniques and re-enforce policies, guidelines, and procedures as established by the company.
  • Provide safety and environmental guidance and direction to various programs, at all levels, to ensure continuity.
  • Support a culture of excellence in safety management through effective communication and employee engagement. Drive actions in pursuit of Zero Incident culture.
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification and prevention of possible losses.
  • Risk management and mitigation.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of corrective action plans implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss.
  • Conduct internal safety audits.
  • Develop, maintain, and update Job Hazard Risk Assessment (JHRA) for all safe work practices and equipment.
  • Conduct JHRA employee training.
  • Coordinate with Plant Manager and Operations on facility deficiencies and monthly safety inspections.
  • Maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining the site preparedness, emergency plan and procedures.
  • Oversee Safety exercises, drills, and response procedures.
  • Responsible for coordinating regulatory programs and its applications and help support the compliance process.
  • Review accidents and incidents by conducting field audits, reporting and manage the corrective actions.
  • Provide timely monitoring and tracking of all injuries along with Management of Workers’ Compensation cases.
  • Partner with Human Resource Department to implement employee wellness programs and initiatives.
  • Maintain working relationships with Regulatory Agencies and other third-party agencies.
  • Facilitate and lead the Safety Committee for the Operation team.
  • Manage Team Base Job Hazard Risk Assessments; oversee the process and conduct training needs analysis.
  • Coordinate and lead emergency response teams including First Aid, First-Responders, and authorized fire extinguisher users.
  • Ability to travel 30%+ as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors ‘s degree in Health, Safety, & Environmental Engineering/Science or a related discipline
  • 5 years of experience or combination of education, training, and experience

Working experience/knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety systems, metrics, KPI’s and tools, including knowledge of statistics

Strong knowledge of Behavior Based Safety Programs and practices of implementing such systems

Proven experience in leading direct reports

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of OSHA/EPA and other relevant regulations and standards.

Timely record maintenance and excellent attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.

Risk analysis and prevention methods.

Demonstrated leadership
