National Security Internship Programs (NSIP) Coordinator: Part-Time Non-Exempt

The National Security Internship Programs (NSIP) Coordinator reports directly to the Director of National Security Internship Programs (NSIP). This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and coordination of the internship program at IWP.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

To perform in this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Prescreen intern candidate submissions via Handshake, ensure the completion and accuracy of application materials, identity verification, and select candidates who best meet program standards and demonstrate strong potential to become IWP students.
  • Maintain professional communication with intern candidates, providing updates on application status, program details, and next steps.
  • Support weekly schedule implementation.
  • Support DC site visits by booking and coordinating events as requested.
  • Order, receive, and prepare food for intern lunches including set up and clean up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes (interns)


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • BA degree in International Relations, History, Economics, National Security/Intelligence or related subject preferred.
  • 1-3+ years of professional work experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Windows-based applications.

Work Environment:

  • General office environment
  • Work from home is permitted for reasonable requests.
  • Due to relationship development with intern candidates and admitted interns, the NSIP Coordinator may need to be reached by phone during non-traditional business hours.
  • Travel: Limited

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • The person in this position needs the mobility to move about inside the office and facility to oversee and participate in Event activities.
  • Operates a computer and other digital equipment including cameras, sound systems, and other recording equipment.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with students, faculty, guests, and staff. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Frequently moves equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for various event needs.
