Job Summary
The Service Technician 5 ensures all daily and required work is completed by due dates and reports status as required. Assists other Service Technicians as required. Assists with incident investigations, work plans and resolution of customer issues/complaints.
This position has general responsibilities that include regulated and/or non-regulated job duties including:
  • Regulated - Perform maintenance, repair, construction and emergency response on gas transmission and distribution systems and provide operational support to install, remove, read and replace gas meters, investigate gas leaks and carbon monoxide calls, complete meter routines and activities such as turn-offs, collections and turn-ons. Perform line locates and leak surveys as required. Perform odorant testing to insure odorant levels are maintained at required levels. Provide emergency response to all types of gas emergencies as outlined in the Company O&M Manual. Respond to emergency carbon monoxide calls and emergency locates
  • Non-regulated - Diagnose, repair, service and install appliances and HVAC equipment. Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on appliances and HVAC equipment

On call/standby 24 X 7 on a rotating basis. Shift work may be required based on business need.
Promote and sell non-regulated service contracts (Service Choice).
As required, must remain OQ qualified under DOT regulations.
Complete time in grade and pass applicable hands on testing.
Job Responsibilities
  • Install, service and routinely change out all sizes of gas metering devices, pressure regulators, relief valves and filters
  • Read meters accurately for proper customer billing
  • Identify, locate and mark all natural gas mains, service lines, and fuel lines within transmission and distribution system
  • Perform odorant testing, system leak surveys, cathodic protection, annual mandated system inspections, third party contractor audits, and provide proper documented reports through our computer reporting system
  • Assist with new construction or replacement of natural gas mains and service lines
  • Properly set, adjust, and monitor various pressures used for delivery of natural gas including farm taps and pressure testing of facilities
  • Provides work direction, operational support and acts as a technical resource to Field Technicians
  • Provide operational support to install, remove, read and replace gas meters
  • Investigate gas leaks and provide emergency response to all types of gas leaks, carbon monoxide calls
  • Locating of gas transmission and distribution systems
  • Submit and maintain accurate and timely reports and documentation as required in accordance with Company O&M manual, DOT, and state and local governing bodies
  • Complete meter routines, turn-off, collections and turn-on activities as needed
  • Service and repair appliances and HVAC equipment
  • Examine HVAC/appliances for defects and preform diagnostic tests
  • Required to become and remain OQ qualified under DOT regulations
  • Maintain demonstrated mastery of required instrumentation such as line locator, combustible gas indicator, carbon monoxide tester and pressure testing equipment

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED
  • Applicant must have a valid driver's license and meet the company's requirements for driving
  • Based on assigned job tasks, select Service Technicians may be required to undergo additional training and medical testing for safety and PPE requirements (e.g. respirator use)

The Service Technician 5 position requires applicable experience which may include:
  • Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical principles
  • Customer relations, customer service and/or sales experience
  • Electronic device operation (computer, Toughpad, etc.)

Pay Range Maximum: $32.97

The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.
