Their responsibilities often include assisting with camera setup, organizing and transporting equipment, managing camera-related paperwork, and helping ensure smooth communication within the department. Camera PAs play a crucial role in maintaining an efficient workflow, allowing camera operators and cinematographers to focus on capturing the best footage. This role partners closely with the Director of Photography, Production, IT & Equipment, and cross-functional teams to coordinate schedules, equipment logistics, and department priorities. This role is integral in helping the camera team operate efficiently across day-to-day productions and large-scale tentpole projects.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented, with a strong understanding of camera workflows and production logistics. While this is not a camera operating position, success in the role requires an appreciation for cinematography, production timelines, and the coordination necessary to support a fast-paced production environment.

Core Competencies

  • Organization & Attention to Detail: Maintains accurate systems, documentation, and project information while effectively managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Project Coordinator Mindset: Plans, prioritizes, and executes administrative workflows to keep projects, timelines, and departmental initiatives on track.
  • Team Oriented Collaboration: Builds strong partnerships across Production, IT & Equipment, and other cross-functional teams to support shared goals and efficient execution.
  • Strong Communication: Communicates clearly and professionally, ensuring stakeholders remain informed and aligned while representing the Camera Department with confidence.
  • Adaptability & Problem Solving: Anticipates logistical challenges, adjusts to shifting production priorities, and identifies practical solutions to keep work moving forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with Department Operations: Manage the Camera Department's administrative operations by maintaining departmental systems, coordinating project timelines, tracking priorities, and ensuring work progresses efficiently from planning through completion.
  • Production Coordination: Support productions by coordinating freelance camera crew, securing equipment rentals, organizing logistics for tentpole projects, and helping the department stay aligned with production schedules and priorities.
  • Meeting & On-Set Support: Represent the Camera Department in meetings when the Director of Photography or videographers are unavailable, communicate key updates and action items, and provide administrative and logistical support on set as needed to help productions run smoothly.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Production, IT & Equipment, and other department coordinators to align schedules, equipment, and resources, ensuring the Camera Department is prepared to support production needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year experience supporting a camera, production, or technical team in a film, television, live event, or digital media environment.
  • Experience coordinating production logistics, equipment rentals, and/or freelance crew.
  • Familiarity with professional camera and lighting systems and production workflows.
  • Strong project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
