Researches, develops and evaluates calibration systems and techniques that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure following good Metrology practice, in support of Transcat's Calibration Technicians by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes calibration requirements to determine laboratory standards appropriate to meet or exceed minimum Test Uncertainty Ratio (TUR) requirements for Metrology applications
  • Interprets schematics, instruction manuals, and/or drawings to determine Metrology requirements.
  • Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.
  • Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.
  • Consults with Directors, Managers, Metrologist, customers, technicians, and engineering staff to evaluate operational, performance, and/or application requirements for calibration.
  • Uses calibration standards, in multiple metrology parameters such as DC/Low Frequency, Radio Frequency, Microwave Frequency, Optical Radiation, Physical, Dimensional, Mechanical, Pressure, Flow, and Temperature. Operates equipment such as Multifunction Calibrators, Frequency Counters, Signal Generators, Spectrum Analyzers, Power Sensors and Network Analyzers, to perform daily calibrations, train technicians in the use of these instruments, and perform Design of Experiments (DOEs) in calculating Transcat's Calibration Measurement Capability (CMC) in multiple parameters of Metrology.
  • Formulates and designs software for automation of the calibration process, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design, in cooperation with Transcat's Software Engineers.
  • Assists in software system testing procedures, programming, documentation and validation, ability to setup/program software for calibration software packages such as MetCal, etc.).
  • Trains calibration technicians on the methods, application, and uncertainties of measurements.
  • Other duties as directed.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in Physics or Electrical Engineering from a four-year accredited university and a minimum of five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Calibration Software scripting, Database software; Design software; Development software (Microsoft Visual Basic Internet software; Manufacturing software; Project Management software; Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Military PMEL certificate preferred
  • CCT certification from ASQ preferred
