Job Purpose

This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in setting up coin cell and pouch cell experimental equipment, engaging with suppliers to procure raw materials for battery production, and daily cell RD lab operation and maintenance.

The intern will support the setup and layout of coin cell and pouch cell equipment, raw material characterization equipment, and supplier engagement for material procurement. This role involves working with engineers to define equipment specifications, assist in lab setup, write equipment standard operational procedure (SOP) and ensure the proper arrangement of testing infrastructure. Additionally, the intern will help source and obtain raw material samples from suppliers for evaluation and selection in battery production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Perform electrode fabrication processes including slurry preparation, coating, drying, calendaring, and electrode cutting.
  • Assist in designing and setting up coin cell and pouch cell fabrication and performance testing equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineers to optimize electrode fabrication parameters.
  • Support the layout and installation of raw material characterization equipment.
  • Help define and document equipment specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize lab and testing workflows.
  • Participate in the evaluation and calibration of testing instruments.
  • Maintain proper documentation of equipment configurations and setup processes.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving basic setup issues.
  • Research and identify potential raw material suppliers.
  • Communicate with suppliers to request and procure sample materials for testing.
  • Coordinate and track sample shipments, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Assist in analyzing test results and contributing to material selection decisions.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrochemistry, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic knowledge of battery testing principles and lab instrumentation.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong communication skills for engaging with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred

  • Prior experience with lab setups or testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with Lithium-ion battery technology and characterization techniques.
