What is the highest paying job in manufacturing?

In manufacturing, senior engineering roles such as Manufacturing Engineering Manager or Plant Manager tend to be among the highest paying positions, often earning six-figure salaries. These roles typically require extensive experience, leadership skills, and knowledge of production processes and equipment management.

Is CAD still in demand?

CAD manufacturing professionals are in consistent demand across industries such as engineering, architecture, and product design. Proficiency in CAD software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks, along with technical skills, enhances job prospects as companies rely on CAD for precise design and manufacturing processes.

What is the difference between Cad Manufacturing vs CAD Designer?

AspectCad ManufacturingCAD Designer
Primary FocusCreating manufacturing-ready CAD models for production processesDesigning detailed 2D/3D models for visualization and client presentations
Work EnvironmentManufacturing plants, engineering firmsDesign studios, architectural firms, engineering offices
Required CertificationsCAD software proficiency, technical drafting skillsCAD software proficiency, artistic and technical design skills
Industry UsageManufacturing, engineering, product developmentArchitecture, product design, engineering

Cad Manufacturing and CAD Designer roles share skills in CAD software but differ in focus. Cad Manufacturing emphasizes preparing models for production, while CAD Designers focus on creating visual and conceptual designs. Both roles are essential in their respective industries and often require similar technical certifications.

What is CAD in manufacturing?

CAD in manufacturing refers to Computer-Aided Design, a technology used by CAD manufacturing professionals to create detailed 2D and 3D models of parts and products. It streamlines the design process, improves accuracy, and facilitates collaboration with CNC machining and other production tools.

Will CAD drafters be replaced by AI?

CAD drafters perform detailed technical drawing and design work that currently requires human expertise, but AI tools are increasingly automating repetitive tasks and assisting in design processes. While AI can enhance productivity, it is unlikely to fully replace skilled CAD drafters in the near future, as complex problem-solving and creativity remain essential in the role.

Job description

Description
TFX is looking for a highly skilled CAD designer/engineer to join our team. This role is for someone who is truly strong in CAD-not just basic part modeling, but advanced surface modeling, complex geometry, and designing with real-world manufacturing in mind.
We build a wide range of custom projects, so the right person needs to be extremely capable in CAD and comfortable working through challenging design problems. This is a hands-on, fast-moving environment where designs need to look right, function correctly, and actually be buildable.
What We're Looking For:
  • Very strong CAD skills, especially surface modeling and complex part design
  • Experience with multiple CAD platforms and the ability to learn new ones quickly
  • Strong understanding of how parts, assemblies, and products are actually manufactured and assembled
  • Ability to turn rough ideas, sketches, or concepts into clean, accurate, production-ready models
  • Good design judgment around fit, finish, tolerances, and practicality
  • Comfortable working on a wide variety of projects rather than the same thing every day
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work quickly without sacrificing quality

Responsibilities
โ€ข Strong proficiency in one or more professional CAD programs
โ€ข Advanced experience with surface modeling, complex geometry, and detailed part/assembly design
โ€ข Solid understanding of real-world manufacturing methods, materials, and assembly constraints
โ€ข Ability to create accurate, organized, and production-ready CAD data
โ€ข Experience working from rough concepts, reference images, sketches, or incomplete information
โ€ข Strong grasp of fitment, tolerances, clearances, and practical design execution
โ€ข Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
โ€ข Strong problem-solving ability and close attention to detail
โ€ข Good communication skills and ability to work closely with fabrication and leadership teams
โ€ข Self-motivated, efficient, and able to work with minimal hand-holding
Qualifications
โ€ข Create high-quality CAD models, assemblies, and design packages for a wide variety of projects
โ€ข Develop complex surface models and production-ready geometry based on project needs
โ€ข Translate concepts, sketches, and verbal direction into clean, buildable designs
โ€ข Review designs for manufacturability, fit, function, and overall practicality
โ€ข Work closely with the shop and project teams to ensure designs are realistic and executable
โ€ข Revise and improve designs as projects develop, including solving issues that come up during build
โ€ข Prepare files, drawings, and related CAD data needed for manufacturing and internal use
โ€ข Maintain organized and accurate CAD files, assemblies, and revision control
โ€ข Help identify smarter, faster, and better ways to design parts and assemblies
โ€ข Support a wide range of custom projects that may vary significantly in type, scale, and complexity
