Job description

Please note: This position is part-time, 20 hours per week. 

Do you have a passion for children’s ministry? Do you enjoy guiding, shepherding, and fostering an engaging environment for the next generation to grow in their faith? If so, YOU may be our new Cactus Discovery Kids Program Director! We are called to bring up children in training and instruction of the Lord. You can use your skills to help SBC love and guide the next generation towards a genuine relationship with Christ.

As the Discovery Kids Program Director, you are a vital part of the Team, responsible for carrying on the Vision, Mission, and Values of SBC. In this role, you will report to the Cactus Discovery Kids Ministry Pastor and are responsible for providing large group programming, activities, events, and volunteer recruitment for all aspects of the Discovery Kids Ministry, weekend as well as weekday, at the SBC Cactus campus.

Your Essential Responsibilities:

In this position, you will:

  • For the safety and protection of minors and vulnerable adults, you will be responsible for understanding and complying with mandatory reporting laws, along with training any volunteers under your supervision (if applicable) to ensure adherence to these legal requirements
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of large group programming by executing the presentation of lessons provided by Discovery Kids on a weekly basis
  • Create a fun and energetic environment to teach children about God and share the gospel
  • Recruit, onboard and train volunteers
  • Assist with maintaining an attractive, clean, welcoming appearance in the Discovery Kids where families and volunteers enter
  • Assist with deploying children’s curriculum provided by DK Creative Coordinator
  • Enfold young families: introduce them, connect them with the community, encourage their involvement
  • Develop classroom and large group activities, coordinating with Central Discovery Kids team for programming of Nursery through 5th grade lessons
  • Develop and maintain classroom checklist on supplies, safety, and on-going furniture needs
  • Partner with DK team for VBS – recruit, mobilize, place, communicate with volunteers; work closely with Volunteer Coordinator on all aspects
  • Participate and serve during Cactus special events
  • Assist in overseeing weekend programming at all levels so volunteers can teach and freely minister to kids.  Work as a coach; troubleshoot where needed when safety concerns may arise
  • Coordinate with Central Communications and Creative team to create, print and distribute necessary fliers for promotion of all upcoming Children’s events and opportunities
  • Communicate with Web and Social Media team for event registrations
  • In addition to normal work hours, you will be required to work during all Sunday services
  • Cast vision, build a team, and execute ministry in Discovery Kids Birth – 5th Grade
  • Direct the recruitment, training, development, and care of Birth – 5th Grade leads, volunteers and Jr. volunteers as needed for weekend services and special events
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of events to develop community and connection within the volunteer team
  • Make sure the Birth – 5th Grade ministry is fully staffed at all weekend services
  • Oversee that the Birth – 5th Grade building and all included areas are clean, stocked and organized

Other Responsibilities (Non-Essential):

  • Attend weekly Discovery Kids Staff meetings at the Shea campus, office there when needed
  • Partner with Central Security Team to ensure all established guidelines are in place
  • Related duties or special projects as assigned

Education and/or experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Christian Education or Childhood Development, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in ministry, children’s programming, childcare industry, or relevant role
  • 2+ years of experience in a team environment
