What is a cable recovery job?

Cable recovery jobs involve the process of locating, retrieving, and removing unused or obsolete cables from buildings, industrial sites, or utility networks. Workers in this field may handle a variety of cable types, such as electrical, fiber optic, or telecommunications cables. The goal is to safely extract these cables to free up space, comply with regulations, or recover valuable materials for recycling. Cable recovery jobs often require knowledge of safety procedures, proper use of tools, and sometimes working in confined or elevated spaces.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a cable recovery technician?

To thrive as a Cable Recovery Technician, you need a solid understanding of cable systems, electrical safety, and physical aptitude, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent and on-the-job training. Familiarity with cable tracing equipment, hand and power tools, and sometimes certifications like OSHA safety training are typically required. These competencies ensure safe, efficient cable removal and minimize service disruptions or hazards in the field.
