Quality Assurance Manager

Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Quality Manager to be based out of our New Bedford, MA facility. Reporting to the Quality Director, this person will be responsible for identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, formulating corrective and preventive actions, and working to implement those actions to improve quality levels and regulatory compliance.

The ideal internal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science along with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Quality Manager in a manufacturing environment. Experience in manufacturing of wire and cable is a plus. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business system-based company is a requirement.

What you’ll do:

  • Supervise daily activities of the quality team, ensuring operational efficiency and adherence to quality standards.
  • Translate quality objectives into actionable tasks and implement daily management systems to monitor progress.
  • Assess team capabilities and develop training programs to improve individual and overall team competency.
  • Deliver timely feedback on employee performance and manage annual performance review cycles.
  • Lead hiring, onboarding, development, and performance management efforts, including corrective action plans (PIPs) when necessary.
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to support Atkore’s mission and uphold company values.
  • Utilize structured problem-solving tools (8D, Fishbone, 5-Whys) to resolve customer complaints and internal quality concerns.
  • Share and implement effective corrective actions and best practices across multiple manufacturing sites.
  • Analyze quality performance data using statistical tools and provide actionable insights to management.
  • Lead and support the rollout and maintenance of QMS-related processes and procedures.
  • Work with production teams to resolve quality issues stemming from the 6Ms (Man, Machine, Material, Method, Measurement, Environment).
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives using quality tools such as FMEA, Gage R&R, SPC, Pareto Analysis, and Lean/Six Sigma methods.
  • Conduct periodic internal audits to ensure compliance and effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Provide training for new hires and ongoing refresher training to existing employees.
  • Develop and deliver focused training for production staff based on customer feedback and defect trends.
  • Ensure proper change management procedures are followed, and risks are assessed and mitigated proactively

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related Science discipline, with a minimum of 7 years of experience as a Quality Manager in a manufacturing environment.
  • Certified Quality Manager (CQM) credential from the American Society for Quality (ASQ) is required.
  • Certified Six Sigma Black Belt preferred (minimum Green Belt), with proven experience applying DMAIC or Lean methodologies.
  • Proficient in the use of problem-solving tools and structured methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys, and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, inspection techniques, gauging, and metrology practices.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing teams that uphold organizational values and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • In-depth understanding of Quality Management Systems, particularly ISO 9001 standards and compliance requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, or equivalent)

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program.
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy.
  • Understand your team’s strengths and opportunities.
  • Have a detailed understanding of internal defects and customer complaints.
  • Be part of daily Gemba walks and participate in LDM (lean daily management) meeting.

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Understand and participate in developing countermeasures to meet department goals.
  • Lead group and site Quality related discussions based on specified topics.
  • Lead problem solving activity to resolve internal scrap and customer complaints.
  • Initiate monthly one on one discussions with direct reports.

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Be managing an efficient team that exceeds goals.
  • Develop and train team to updated standard work and work instruction.
  • Perform SWOT, develop strategies and collaborate with Quality Director to develop annual strategy.
  • Have meaningful conversations with your direct reports to improve their engagement, alignment, and performance.

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay for this position is $112,000 - $154,000. Placement in the range depends on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, relevant experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs and may change over time. Other compensation may include, but not limited to, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, commissions, stock, and other incentives.
