What is a cable locator?
What is the difference between Cable Locator vs Cable Technician?
| Aspect | Cable Locator | Cable Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | OSHA, industry-specific safety training | OSHA, specialized technical certifications |
| Work Environment | Fieldwork locating underground or overhead cables | Field and sometimes indoor repair or installation |
| Job Focus | Locating and marking underground cables | Installing, repairing, and maintaining cables |
| Employer & Industry | Utility companies, telecom providers | Telecom, cable TV, utility companies |
While both roles work with cables, a Cable Locator primarily focuses on identifying and marking underground or overhead cables using specialized equipment. A Cable Technician, on the other hand, handles installation, repair, and maintenance of cable systems. Understanding these differences helps job seekers find the right role based on skills and career goals.
