The Journeyman Installation Technician is responsible for performing a wide variety of installation duties on technology projects for our clients. This position is a key position to maintain field coverage and project execution capacity across the PNW region. The install tech needs to coordinate with project management, field superintendents and others to fully understand their role on specific projects. They interpret our drawing packages to create the basis of the finishedย
systems. This installation can include displays, projectors, loudspeakers, microphones, equipment racks, etc.ย
Location: Must live in the Portland metro areaย
What Youโll Do:
โข Possess all skills from Install Technician and from the Associate Fabricationย

โข Leads and delegates tasks to install crews, subcontractors, and union trades. Mayย
be required to regularly lead a team on large projects.ย
โข Verifies all work complies with Diversifiedโs and clients QC standards. Oversee fieldย
operations in situations without a dedicated on-site superintendent.ย
โข Physical installation of a wide variety of technology into a wide variety of locations.ย
โข Execute a wide variety of cabling terminations for all wire and connector typesย
including verifying crew terminations to our standards.ย
โข Support the preparation of equipment racks for staging of equipment wire lacingย
including installation of power strips, grounding bars, jack-fields, etc.ย
โข Able to read and understand functional design drawings as well as cable riserย
diagrams.ย
โข Able to perform mounting of base build equipment such as monitor mounts,ย
ceiling speakers, microphones and projectors.ย
โข Provide a consistent level of technical performance as well as flexibility in workย
schedule. This position requires periodic overtime and may require regularย
overtime and weekend work for extended periods to meet client deadlines.ย
โข Able to complete assignments in accordance with or better than established taskย
durations as well as estimate task durations to meet assigned deadlines. Providesย
daily feedback to field site supervisor and/or direct manager.ย
โข Able to build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.ย
โข Advanced Fiber optic cable handling, installation termination, repair and testing.ย
โข Will generate cable labels and manage all wire listing activities for cable labels perย
our standards.ย
โข Maintain an organized work environment specifically orderliness and cleanliness ofย
the shop and jobsites.ย
โข Responsible for tracking and maintaining their toolkit, company vehicles andย
installation materials inventories. Keeping things clean, orderly and wellย
documented. Maintain an on-site job box when applicable.ย
โข Responsible for checking in drop shipped items and maintaining on-site materialsย
needed by the crew. Working with the PM to assure timely delivery of on-siteย
equipment and materials.ย
โข Responsible for tracking and maintaining their personal licenses, certifications andย
qualifications. (some states have specific requirement in this area)ย
โข Maintain daily record of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry asย
well as an employee/contractor information log to share with management.ย
Complexity:
This level of technician will be responsible for performing tasks on clientsโ job sites with noย
supervision. This position is responsible for the coordination with clients, contractors andย
subcontractors. This position will be the key and only senior field supervisor in manyย
situations and will be responsible for delegating work, monitoring others work andย
communicating with key stakeholders on behalf of the PM. This position requires the highestย
level of technical and people skills.ย
Decision Making Authority:ย
This position is often alone on the job sites and requires making good judgement aboutย
decisions that need to be made. In general the project manager and a site supervisor areย
available to answer questions but this position is very independent and will be looked upon toย
make many onsite decisions on behalf of the PM. This position requires good diplomacy inย
working with our clients and other key stakeholders on the job sites.ย

Physical Demands:ย
The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis. Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. The employee can typically spend at least 60% of their time on their feet and be required to mobile around the construction site. The employee must have the ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs and lift and/or move materials up to 40 pounds in constructionย
areas. The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls required for SI installation projects. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth vision. When not on construction sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions and be required to use office equipment such as computers, peripherals, etc.ย
Travel:ย
Frequent travel by car throughout PNW, must possess a valid driverโs license in Oregon. Employee will be required to use their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage at the current corporate rate.ย
What Youโll Bring:
Education/Certifications:
โข High school or GED equal. Associates/Bachelors degree required and/or equivalentย
experience.ย
โข AVIXA CTS Certification is required.ย
โข AVIXA CTS-I Certification is highly desired.ย
โข Five or more years as an installation technician or related industry experience.ย
โข Must have a valid drivers license and adhere to our insurance requirementsย
โข OSHA 30 Certificate required.ย
โข Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on the technologyย
focus of the position.ย
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- 3+ years as an associate technician and/or fabrication technician or related industry experience.
- Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video and networking equipment
- Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical concepts
- Possess advanced carpentry and/or installation skills
- Proficient use and safety with power tools
- Good verbal communication skills and good customer service skills.
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
