Job description

Openwork is currently engaged in a search to find a Cable Harness for a leading aerospace manufacturer located in South Austin. In this role, you’ll be responsible for building high-quality cable harnesses and wiring assemblies used in aerospace and defense applications. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in cable harness fabrication, soldering, and hold a valid J-STD certification.
As a Cable Technician, you’ll be responsible for:
  • Building cable harnesses, wire bundles, and electrical assemblies to exact engineering specifications
  • Reading and interpreting wiring diagrams, blueprints, and assembly drawings
  • Performing soldering, crimping, and splicing in compliance with J-STD-001 standards
  • Using hand tools and specialized equipment for cable assembly, including wire strippers, heat guns, and multimeters
  • Conducting quality checks and testing completed harnesses for continuity and resistance
  • Ensuring all work meets internal and industry quality standards
  • Documenting work performed and reporting any discrepancies or required rework
  • Collaborating with production, engineering, and quality teams to meet deadlines and resolve technical issues
What you’ll need:
  • 2+ years of experience building cable harnesses or electrical assemblies, with strong soldering skills (required)
  • J-STD-001 certification (required)
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of cable assembly techniques, including soldering, crimping, and routing
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
