CA Gen, formerly known as IEF (Information Engineering Facility), is widely used in industries like banking, insurance, and government for building large-scale, mission-critical applications on mainframe and distributed platforms. CA Gen Developers are responsible for modeling business processes, generating code, and ensuring seamless application integration. Their expertise helps organizations modernize legacy systems and improve operational efficiency.

To thrive as a CA Gen Developer, you need a solid understanding of CA Gen (formerly COOL:Gen) development, database design, and programming concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with mainframe environments, version control systems, and experience using CA Gen modeling tools are typically required. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers collaborate with teams and address complex business requirements. These skills are vital for delivering robust, maintainable applications that align with organizational goals and technical standards.

What are some common challenges faced by CA Gen Developers when working on legacy systems?

CA Gen Developers often encounter challenges when maintaining or upgrading legacy systems, such as deciphering outdated documentation and integrating newer technologies. These environments may rely on older versions of CA Gen or mainframe platforms, which can require creative problem-solving and close collaboration with other IT teams to ensure smooth transitions or updates. Staying adaptable and proactively learning about both legacy and modern system architectures greatly helps in overcoming these challenges.

Our people at JLL are shaping the future of real estate for a better world by combining world class services, advisory and technology for our clients. We are committed to hiring the best, most talented peopleand empowering them tothrive, grow meaningful careers and to find a place where they belong. Whether you've got deep experience in commercial real estate, skilled trades or technology, or you're looking to apply your relevant experience to a new industry, join our team as we help shape a brighter way forward.

Pay: $65000 - $75000 / year

Schedule: Hybrid; in office 3 days per week

Location: Austin, TX; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; San Diego, CA; Washington DC

This is a new kind of role, one that doesn't yet exist in most consulting practices. JLL's Government, Education and Non-Profit (GEN) Advisory group is building a working AI infrastructure to support how we run the business and deliver client work, and we're looking for an AI Analyst to help design, build, and operate it. This is not a technical IT role. It is a hybrid real estate advisory and AI practitioner role for someone who wants to learn the real estate consulting business while simultaneously becoming expert in applying AI tools to the real problems faced by our internal teams and mission-driven clients.

If you are early in your career and genuinely excited about both public sector real estate and the frontier of AI-augmented professional work, this role was built for you.

What You'll Be Building

GEN Advisory runs hundreds of advisory assignments per year across education, local government, state government, and federal practice areas. Each assignment generates research, analysis, financial models, presentations, reports, and proposals. Our goal is to use AI tools to compress the time it takes to do that work at high quality, so our team can focus on the creative, complex thinking that drives real value for clients. This role is not about replacing human judgment. It is about building human-machine teams that work smarter, where AI handles the repeatable and our people lead on the strategic. The impact extends beyond efficiency: by transforming how we work, we help public sector and mission-driven clients make faster, better-informed decisions that advance their missions and serve their communities.

As AI Analyst, you will work at the intersection of that vision and daily reality: understanding what the team actually needs, building the tools and workflows to deliver it, and supporting the client work directly as a real estate analyst in your own right.

The Role

AI Infrastructure and Workflow Development

  • Design, build, and refine AI-powered workflows that support research synthesis, deliverable drafting, proposal coordination, market analysis, and knowledge management.
  • Develop and maintain a library of prompt templates calibrated to GEN Advisory's specific work.
  • Manage the practice's AI knowledge base: organize past project materials, methodologies, and reference content so they are accessible to AI platforms as context for future work.
  • Identify bottlenecks in current workflows where AI assistance would have the highest impact; prototype solutions and bring them to the team for feedback.
  • Support integration between AI, SharePoint, Salesforce, and other practice tools as those connections are developed.

Operations Support

  • Apply AI tools to operations functions: utilization tracking, assignment pipeline reporting, revenue data synthesis, and team reporting, working in coordination with the Director of Operations.
  • Help build and maintain structured data systemsthat support practice management visibility.
  • Draft internal communications, process documentation, and onboarding materials with AI assistance.
  • Monitor AI tool performance and adoption across the team; gather feedback and iterate on what's working.

Real Estate Analyst Responsibilities

  • Conduct market research, demographic analysis, and comparable transaction research to support active client engagements.
  • Assist with financial modeling, development pro formas, lease comparisons, portfolio cost analyses, all under direction of senior advisors.
  • Prepare sections of client presentations, reports, and meeting materials; learn to frame technical findings for executive and governing board audiences.
  • Participate in client meetings and project team working sessions, building your understanding of public sector real estate advisory alongside your AI work.
  • Contribute to proposals: research, content development, and coordination support for RFP responses.

Qualifications

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Real Estate, Business, Finance, Information Systems, Systems Engineer, Urban Planning, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience; internship, academic project, or personal project experience in AI tools, real estate, consulting, or a related area is valued.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with AI tools, particularly large language models like Claude, ChatGPT, or similar beyond casual use. You should be able to speak concretely about how you've used them to accomplish something.

Skills

  • Genuine curiosity about AI and how it applies to professional work, meaning you follow this space, you experiment, and you have opinions about what works.
  • Strong written communication: you can write clearly for professional audiences and understand that good prompt engineering is, at its core, good writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with SharePoint or similar platforms.
  • Analytical aptitude, comfort working with data, building structured outputs, and synthesizing information from multiple sources.
  • Systems thinker: you see workflow problems as design problems and look for root causes rather than workarounds.
  • Collaborative, creative, and low-ego: this role requires working closely with senior advisors, understanding their real needs, and building tools that fit the way they actually work.

Valued (Not Required)

  • Familiarity with prompt engineering techniques, retrieval-augmented generation, or AI workflow design.
  • Exposure to real estate, government, higher education, or other public sector contexts.
  • Experience with SharePoint Lists, Power Automate, or similar Microsoft 365 tools.
  • Coursework or project work in public policy, urban planning, or public finance.

What You Can Expect

  • A genuinely novel role in a global organization: you will be building something that does not exist yet in most consulting practices, with real influence over how it takes shape.
  • Dual-track development: you will grow as both a real estate advisory professional and an AI practitioner, a combination with significant long-term career value.
  • Direct exposure to complex public sector real estate engagements, P3 transactions, campus planning, government portfolio work from early in your career.
  • A team that is serious about AI adoption and will invest in your learning: tools, training, and the latitude to experiment.
  • Mentorship from senior advisors who understand both the real estate business and where AI fits within it.
  • A mission you can stand behind: the work we do strengthens communities, advances educational access, and makes public institutions more effective.
  • Competitive entry-level compensation, comprehensive benefits, and a clear path toward a more senior advisory or AI strategy role as the practice evolves.
