This Full time RNFA โ€œ RN First Assistโ€ position is scheduled for day shift and is also scheduled to be on call as needed at Oro Valley Hospital.

Our key services include a robust orthopedics program using the da Vinci robot -ย  minimally invasive and robotic assisted joint replacement surgery, minimally invasive and robotic assisted general surgery, gastroenterology and many others!

Position Purpose

The Surgical First Assist functions as a First Assistant or as an additional assistant to the surgeon, within scope of practice. Provides scrub and/or circulating nurse services within scope or practice in the operating room during surgical procedures and assists surgical team, as needed, in any other capacity.ย 

Some of the duties of a surgical first assist include - Assists in preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment.ย  Assists with opening of sterile supplies.ย  Assists in moving, positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgical procedures.ย  Assists the surgical team during operative procedures, anticipating needs of surgeon. Functions as assistant to surgeon, as evidenced byย  retracting tissue and exposing the operating field during operative procedures,ย  providing homeostasis during surgical procedures and assisting in closure of incisions.

Position Qualifications/Minimum Requirements

Education Required:ย Successful completion of an Accredited Surgical First Assistant (RNFA, CFA, or CSA) program (in addition to "Certification" - see below )

Experience:ย Two (2) years OR experience as Surgical Tech or RN required.ย 

One (1) year First Assistant experience strongly preferred.ย ย ย ย ย

Licenses/Certifications:

Required:ย 

For CSA or CFA, current certification and BLS required.ย 

For RNFA unrestricted Arizona RN license, CNOR certification

BLS Basic Cardiac & ACLS ( American Heart Association or American Red Cross)

CRNFA to be completed within 9 months of employment.ย 

ย Must also be able to provide Documentation of 100 cases as a First Assistant in the past 2 years for credentialing process through Medical Staff Services dept.ย
