Serves as a Water Expert supporting the Acute and Chronic Dialysis Unit to ensure safety of patients receiving hemodialysis treatments. Collects Water samples for testing and accountable for managing the RODI system and dialysis equipment in coordination with the Clinical Engineering, Facilities, and contracted vendor.

• Management of the RODI system and dialysis equipment in coordination with the Clinical Engineering Department under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator/Director for Renal Services.
  • a. Oversees the management of the RODI system through coordination with the manufacturer/vendor and Facilities Department.
  • b. Performs scheduled disinfection of dialysis and portable RO machines.
  • c. Collects and monitors culture and LAL sampling of dialysis and RO machines on a monthly basis and as needed.
  • d. Manage reports associated with machine disinfection, water culture and LAL sampling, and other reports as required. e. Manage HD machine in partnership with Clinical Engineering and service contract provider.
• Contributes to continuity of care under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator/Director of Renal Services.
  • a. Implements activities as assigned according to policies, protocols and practice guidelines.
  • b. Troubleshoots equipment as needed.
  • c. Utilizes computer information management systems to facilitate assigned duties.
  • d. Initiate action plans for cultures out of range of the AAMI standards.
  • e. Reports all findings to Clinical Coordinator/Director of Renal Services. 
• Facilitates daily operations/flow of work of assigned area(s).
  • a. Organizes and reprioritizes work based on unit needs, available resources and unit requirements.
  • b. Supports compliance with hospital accreditation, state licensure, and other external accrediting agency requirements.
  • c. Reviews unit/department communication to maintain current working knowledge of job responsibilities.
  • d. Prepares water samples for shipping.
  • e. Provide coverage for unit clerk duties in both acute and chronic unit.
  • f. Assist in patient transport both in acute and chronic unit. 
• Contributes to a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff by following policies and procedures, and protocols.
  • a. Identifies safety risks and participates in instituting measures to prevent/reduce the risk.
  • b. Contributes to prevention of infectious diseases among employees, patients, and visitors by adhering to Infection Control policies and procedures. 
  • c. Completes employee accident reports and contributes information to complete incident, medication variance, and infection control variance reports.
  • d. Reports environmental safety hazards, including damaged and broken equipment.
  • e. Ensures emergency readiness, and initiates timely emergency measures as appropriate according to role responsibilities. 
• Participates in the achievement of unit/department fiscal goals.
  • a. Conserves hospital resources.
  • b. Reviews records for accuracy and completion, pursues corrections as needed.
  • c. Participates in CQI process and reports data collected.
  • d. Participates in formal group discussion for improvement.  

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Dialysis Technician Certification required.
• Complete Water Class Training within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge of Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
• Participate in Water CEUs.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Dialysis Technician Certification required.
