Merchant / Buyer – Dive & Watersports

Manhattan, NY | Hybrid – 3 Days Onsite (Tue, Wed, Thu)

$120K + KPI Bonus

Position Overview

A growing retail and e-commerce organization is seeking a Merchant / Buyer to take full ownership of the Dive & Watersports category across omni-channel sales platforms. This person will own the category from all sides, including assortment, purchasing, inventory, forecasting, vendor relationships, pricing, merchandising, and growth.

The ideal candidate understands the dive and watersports customer and can independently dive into the category, identify opportunities, and drive sales and profitability.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong merchandising, buying, or category management experience in retail or e-commerce

  • Hands-on dive and/or watersports experience with strong knowledge of the products and customer

  • Proven experience independently owning a product category end-to-end

  • Strong Open-to-Buy (OTB), forecasting, inventory, and assortment planning experience

  • Analytical and commercially minded with a strong understanding of sales, margins, and profitability

  • Strong vendor management and negotiation skills

  • Self-directed with a true ownership mentality

Key Responsibilities

  • Own sales, profitability, assortment, and inventory health for the category

  • Develop and execute category, pricing, merchandising, and growth strategies

  • Manage purchasing, forecasting, Open-to-Buy, and inventory planning

  • Build and negotiate vendor relationships

  • Analyze sales and product performance to identify opportunities and adjust strategy

  • Partner with marketing, web, and sales teams to drive category performance

Qualifications

  • Retail, e-commerce, buying, merchandising, or category management experience

  • Dive and/or watersports experience required

  • Strong Excel and analytical skills

  • Experience with OTB, forecasting, inventory management, and vendor negotiations

  • Demonstrated ability to take complete ownership of a category and drive results
