Job description

Reikart House, A Tribute Portfolio Hotel - Amherst, NY
Exceptional. Unique. Independent.
At the Reikart House, every day is a performance - and every employee plays a role in telling our story.
A memorable hotel stay begins the moment a guest walks through the door. It takes someone who is welcoming, knowledgeable, attentive, and ready to help guests feel comfortable throughout their stay.
Our Front Desk Team is at the center of that experience. As a Front Desk Attendant, you will welcome arriving guests, assist departing and in-house guests, answer questions, process reservations and transactions, and provide accurate and timely information and service.
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, communicates professionally, stays organized while handling multiple priorities, and can remain courteous and composed in a fast-paced guest-service environment.
Why Reikart House?
Our goal is simple: To make a difference in people's lives through service.
Every interaction at the Front Desk is an opportunity to make a difference. A warm greeting, an accurate answer, an efficient check-in, or thoughtful assistance with a concern can shape how a guest remembers their entire stay.
As a Front Desk Attendant, you'll be an important connection between our guests and the hotel, helping ensure they receive professional, courteous, accurate, and timely service from arrival through departure.
Great hospitality isn't just about completing a transaction. It's about helping guests feel welcomed, informed, and cared for throughout their stay.
We're Looking for Someone Who:
  • Maintains a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times
  • Has strong customer service skills and is comfortable working directly with the public
  • Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
  • Uses tact and understanding when handling guest concerns, including stressful or highly emotional situations
  • Is highly organized and pays close attention to written and verbal details
  • Can work on more than one task at a time while maintaining accuracy
  • Is comfortable handling cash and following established cash-handling procedures
  • Can learn and use computerized systems and standard front-office equipment
  • Keeps informed about hotel and area functions so guest questions can be answered accurately and promptly
  • Works well with other employees and departments to support the overall hotel operation

What You'll Do
As a Front Desk Attendant, you'll provide professional and courteous service to arriving, departing, and in-house guests while supporting the daily operation of the Front Desk.
Responsibilities include:
  • Greet arriving guests and complete established check-in procedures to help ensure guests are satisfied and accommodated as requested
  • Facilitate guest check-out by following established computer procedures, closing guest accounts, and preparing rooms for the next sale
  • Calculate and post monies, receipts, guest-account charges, and other forms of credit using accurate cash-handling methods and established procedures
  • Answer guest inquiries and accept reservations in person and by telephone
  • Accurately communicate hotel rates and information and use suggestive selling techniques to support room-night sales, occupancy, and revenue
  • Maintain knowledge of in-house and area functions to provide timely and knowledgeable responses to guest questions and concerns
  • Operate PBX equipment, including accepting incoming calls, assisting with outgoing calls, scheduling wake-up calls, and paging guests
  • Control Front Desk cash transactions and maintain responsibility for your assigned bank in accordance with hotel policy
  • Process guest mail, messages, and faxes by receiving, sorting, notifying, and distributing information accurately and promptly
  • Maintain established communication resources, including department and Front Desk log books
  • Assist other employees and departments as needed to support the overall performance of the department and hotel
  • Perform other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management

The Ideal Candidate Is:
  • Experienced in working directly with the public and familiar with basic customer service practices
  • Comfortable with high-school graduate-level mathematics and standard cash-handling procedures
  • Familiar with computerized cash-register systems or able to learn similar systems
  • Fluent in oral and written English
  • Able to read written communications and computer screens
  • Able to use a computer, calculator, telephone keyboard, and other office equipment for cash handling and paperwork processing
  • Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks at once
  • Able to use tact and good judgment when addressing a variety of guest-service concerns
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • No previous hotel experience required

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
This position requires prolonged standing at an indoor, climate-controlled Front Desk workstation and regular use of standard office and hotel communication equipment.
