Job Description

As a Business Process Automation Engineer, you will drive measurable business impact by designing and implementing automation solutions that improve how our Corporate Services business partners operate. You will develop and deliver automation and AI-enabled solutions that connect disconnected business processes and tasks, helping our teams and business clients work more efficiently and effectively.

This role requires a deep understanding of current-state processes, the ability to translate inefficiencies into automation opportunities, and the use of enterprise tools and AI capabilities to deliver rapid ROI. You will have the opportunity to architect, design, and develop end-to-end solutions, build working prototypes, partner with Automation and Agentic AI experts and developers, and ensure every solution creates tangible efficiency gains and value for stakeholders.

This role reports to the Business Systems Consultant, BTS Corporate Services, within the Business Technology Solutions department. We set the vision for how AI and automation enhance our enterprise systems and work closely with business partners to bring that vision to life. This role is on site in Lake County, IL, with flexibility to work from home 2 days per week.

Ideal Candidates Are

  • Business-Savvy Technologists: You can quickly learn and understand current-state processes, apply design thinking to ask diagnostic questions that uncover inefficiencies, and design end-to-end solutions that deliver clear ROI and efficiency gains.

  • Forward Thinkers: You are an impact-driven pragmatist who is focused not just on what is possible, but on what is practical, measurable, and real.

  • Strong Technical Leaders: You are a rapid learner who stays current with evolving AI technologies, frameworks, and enterprise tools, and can code at a detailed technical level.

  • Creative and Quick-to-Value Developers: You understand that working code matters, and you prioritize rapid prototyping, iteration, and production deployment. You can envision what is possible and design intuitive solutions for business partners.

  • Highly Agile: You prefer to learn by building, experimenting, and iterating, and you are comfortable working through ambiguity and evolving requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Engage deeply with Corporate Services stakeholders to understand current-state processes, pain points, constraints, to-be business requirements, and success metrics, and translate these into technical solution designs that deliver measurable efficiency gains.

  • Engineer and implement scalable automation solutions, delivering clean, scalable, production-ready code that integrates with enterprise systems and optimizes business partner workflows.

  • Prioritize rapid prototyping and iterative development by building working MVPs quickly to validate solutions with stakeholders, then refining based on feedback to accelerate time to value.

  • Partner with the business to analyze processes and needs, recommend the most effective solutions, and simplify complex work procedures and job methods.

  • Lead and facilitate meetings effectively with customers and technical team members.

  • Be deliverables focused and detail oriented, demonstrate exceptional teamwork, and maintain a strong customer focus.

  • Bring hands-on expertise with Microsoft Power Platform tools, especially Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI, along with a solid understanding of how to apply AI to streamline workflows and improve business outcomes.

  • Translate business needs into practical automation solutions, work effectively with stakeholders, and build secure, scalable, and user-friendly tools that drive efficiency and innovation.

What Success Looks Like in the First 6-12 Months

  • You have built a strong understanding of Corporate Services processes, key pain points, and automation opportunities.

  • You have delivered one or more working automation solutions or MVPs that materially improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, or improve cycle time.

  • You are independently owning assigned automation work from discovery through delivery, including requirements clarification, solution design, development, testing, and deployment support.

  • You have established trusted relationships with business partners and can clearly communicate progress, tradeoffs, and outcomes.

  • You are using measurable metrics to demonstrate impact, such as hours saved, process cycle-time reduction, error reduction, or improved user experience.

  • You have applied Microsoft Power Platform and AI capabilities in a way that creates repeatable value and supports broader automation strategy.

  • You are consistently delivering solutions that are stable, secure, maintainable, and aligned to business priorities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2 years of experience or Master's degree with 0 years of experience.

  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks and tools, and understanding of LLM orchestration, agentic workflows, and prompt engineering.

  • Proven ability to deliver and maintain production-grade software in enterprise environments, including ongoing support, monitoring, and iterative improvements.

  • Strong ability to translate complex business requirements into technical solutions.

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering measurable efficiency gains and ROI through automation and AI implementations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and diagnostic skills with the ability to understand business processes and identify automation opportunities.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Power Platform tools, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and SharePoint, with the ability to apply AI-driven automation to improve business processes and operational efficiency.

Preferred:

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical industry or other highly regulated environments.

  • Understanding of SDLC methodologies, GxP compliance, and validation requirements.

  • Background in process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or design thinking.
