Job description

Position Summary

The Application Engineer serves as a key technical partner to the sales, costing, sourcing, and commercial teams, helping to secure and grow business with our medical device OEM partners. In this role, you will be responsible for technical assessment of opportunities and its strategic fit between ATL and our customers. You will translate customer requirements into feasible solutions, provide technical input during quoting and proposals, and position ATL capabilities as the preferred choice for medical device development and manufacturing. The role combines engineering expertise with commercial acumen to support successful program acquisition and long-term partnerships, while managing clear expectations between customers and internal stakeholders as opportunities transition within ATL from sales to engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Partner with the sales and business development teams to support customer engagements, training, presentations, and proposal development.
  • Act as the technical voice of the company in customer meetings, demonstrating knowledge of materials, processes, and medical device assembly.
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and requirements to assess feasibility and alignment with our capabilities.
  • Lead DFM/DFX discussions with customers to optimize designs for manufacturability, scalability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Provide accurate technical input into cost models, quotes, and RFQ responses, ensuring competitive and achievable proposals.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with process engineering, operations, and quality teams to align commercial commitments with technical realities.
  • Support program transitions from business award to ATL development teams, ensuring a smooth customer experience.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends in medical device technologies and manufacturing solutions to anticipate customer needs.
  • Attend trade shows and other market‑specific events.
  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customer engineering teams by fostering trust and partnership.
  • Manage customer expectations during early program engagement.
  • Lead early‑stage requirements and prototype builds to support the ATL commercial team.
  • Support proposal development and Statements of Work by outlining solutions, work effort, and associated engineering‑time charges with the Global Program Team as needed.
  • Draft Scope of Work, Manufacturing Strategy, Requirements Matrix, Drawings, and Bill of Materials for an efficient handoff to the Global Program Team.
Skills and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or related Engineering field (Master degree is preferred).
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with 7 years of relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of technical experience in one or more of the following clinical segments: Electrophysiology, Imaging, Electrosurgical, Cardiovascular.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as molding, extrusion, catheter assembly, and precision machining.
  • Familiarity with design controls, risk management, and regulatory requirements (ISO 13485, FDA, MDR).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence both technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting RFQs, cost estimation, and technical proposals.
  • Strong customer orientation with proven success in supporting sales or business development activities.
  • Ability to travel as required to customer sites, trade shows, and company facilities (domestic and international).
