IT Business Analyst

Location: Akron, OH

POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Business Analyst serves as a liaison between business stakeholders and IT, helping translate business needs into practical technology solutions. This role analyzes business processes and systems, gathers and documents requirements, supports solution development and implementation, coordinates testing, and provides ongoing application support. The Business Analyst works closely with business partners, technical teams, developers, and vendors to ensure solutions meet business objectives and deliver expected results.

RESPONSIBILITIESBusiness Analysis & Requirements

Partner with business stakeholders to understand business needs, goals, challenges, and desired outcomes.

Gather and document requirements using interviews, workshops, meetings, document analysis, and other appropriate techniques.

Analyze existing systems, processes, workflows, and data to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.

Translate business requirements into clear functional and technical specifications for IT and development teams.

Develop and maintain business process flows, use cases, business rules, and other requirements documentation.

Identify dependencies, assumptions, risks, and potential impacts of proposed solutions.

Ensure requirements remain aligned with business objectives throughout the solution lifecycle.

Solution Delivery & Project Support

Collaborate with teams to evaluate and develop solutions that address business requirements.

Participate in solution design reviews and technical walkthroughs to validate that proposed solutions meet documented requirements.

Work with vendors, when applicable, to evaluate and support technology solutions.

Support application development projects and system implementations, enhancements, upgrades, and migrations.

Develop and maintain appropriate project deliverables, including requirements, specifications, process documentation, project plans, and related artifacts.

Monitor assigned project activities and communicate scope, status, risks, issues, dependencies, and open items to appropriate stakeholders.

Maintain accurate information in project tracking and documentation tools.

Support Agile and/or Waterfall development methodologies as appropriate.

Data, Systems & Operational Support

Use SQL and other appropriate tools to investigate data, validate results, and support business analysis.

Review and manage application support issues, working with users, technical resources, development teams, and vendors to identify and resolve problems.

Investigate recurring issues and work with technical teams to determine root causes and appropriate solutions.

Support enhancements and known-issue resolution based on business and system needs.

Provide ongoing support for applications following implementations and system changes.

Assist with end-user support, training, and supporting documentation as needed.

Continuous Improvement & Business Partnership

Identify opportunities to improve business processes, system functionality, efficiency, and effectiveness.

Recommend enhancements, automation, or technology solutions that support business goals.

Use information gathered through project and production support activities to identify opportunities for future improvements.

Build effective working relationships with business stakeholders, IT teams, vendors, and other project partners.

Communicate technical concepts and project information clearly to audiences with varying levels of technical knowledge.

Facilitate discussions necessary to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and maintain alignment between business and IT.

Maintain awareness of industry best practices, technology trends, and emerging solutions.

Contribute to team knowledge through accurate process, system, and support documentation.

Testing & Implementation

Develop and execute testing activities as appropriate.

Create or contribute to test plans, test cases, test scripts, and testing documentation.

Coordinate with business users and technical teams to validate that solutions meet defined requirements.

Track testing results and defects and work with appropriate teams to ensure issues are resolved.

Facilitate demonstrations of new functionality, systems, or processes for business stakeholders and end users.

Support system implementations and transitions into production.

Assist with post-implementation activities to ensure solutions are functioning as expected and business needs are being met.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems (MIS), Computer Science, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

5+ years of related business analysis, systems analysis, or IT experience.

Experience supporting software development and/or application implementation projects. Experience gathering, documenting, and analyzing business requirements. Experience creating and documenting business processes and workflows. Experience with software development life cycle methodologies, including Agile and/or Waterfall. Experience creating and executing test cases and supporting User Acceptance Testing. Experience writing SQL queries and working with business or system data. Retail IT experience is preferred.

Technical Skills

Microsoft 365, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

JIRA or similar project/ticket management tools.

Confluence or similar documentation and knowledge management tools.

Lucid, Visio, or similar process mapping and diagramming tools.

Experience in writing SQL queries using SQL Developer or Toad is required. Ability to learn and work with enterprise applications and technical systems.
