Job description

Position Overview:

Bus Operators utilize safe driving techniques and defensive driving skills while transporting passengers to various locations, following a predetermined route. Providing professional customer service to the public, obeying local, state, and federal transit regulations as well as obeying all vehicle and traffic laws.

General Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for transporting passengers safely following predetermined routes and detours.
  • Ensures proper pick up and drop off passengers at designated bus stops.
  • Adheres to all local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for the utilization of safe driving always to reduce and eliminate accidents.
  • Responsible for informing the Company in regarding on the road occurrences within a timely manner.
  • Responsible for proper documentation of faulty equipment during the utilization of assigned vehicle.

Position Qualifications:

  • Required a minimum High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Must have and maintain an excellent Commercial Driver License class A or B with passenger and airbrake endorsements and 19A compliance.
  • Must have 5 years of driving experience.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination.
  • Must be able to safely operate a bus in all weather conditions, including snow, rain, sleet and wind.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Bus Operator Training Program.
  • Must be able to work any scheduled hours such as split shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to climb stairs, reaches above shoulder level, walk extended distance, stand, kneel, sit in a sedentary position for an undefined amount of time.
  • Ability to safely secure a wheelchair.
  • Ability to work in an environment with dust, fumes, exhaust, various noise levels, various temperatures, indoor and outdoor weather conditions for an undefined amount of time.
  • Ability to comprehend, read, write, and converse in English.
  • Ability to bend, lift, push and pull, up to 30 lbs. without assistance.
  • Ability to travel 90% of scheduled time.
  • Ability to use all bus operating equipment.
