JOB OBJECTIVES: (Purpose of the position): Supervise students on the school bus and assist the driver in successfully transporting students to and from school and other related events
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential for attaining job objectives):
  • Assist the school bus driver as he or she safely transports students to and from school in order to support student learning
  • Supervise students and ensure that the students are seated and secure for transit as well as getting safely to the assigned, designated, or approved location
  • Support school personnel by providing appropriate accommodations for special needs students
  • Communicate as needed with parents and school officials
  • Observe all safety regulations for school buses 2. Maintain proper student discipline and assist students with disabilities with proper care as related to their physical disability and/or IEP (Individualized Education Plan)
  • Ability to assist special needs students in emergency situations, and make necessary reports to emergency/medical staff when necessary
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of students at authorized bus stops
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds to help seat, load, and unload students
  • Assist the School Bus Driver in keeping the exterior and interior of the bus clean
  • Know, and abide by, all board of education policies concerning school transportation (available in Carroll County Schools Transportation Department Driver Handbook)
  • Notify the Transportation Department of absence(s), obtain a substitute bus driver, and report who will be driving to the assigned route supervisor
  • Safely load and unload students with specific needs such as wheelchair, seat harnesses, oxygen, etc
  • Report any mechanical or physical problems of the bus and/or students to the appropriate transportation personnel 1. Attend all mandated safety and training meetings
  • Be available for parent conferences on an as needed basis
  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Coordinator of Transportation, Cluster Route Supervisor, Special Needs Route Supervisor, and/or School Bus Driver
OTHER EXPECTATIONS
  • Adhere to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia
  • Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance/timelines
  • Complete assignments and requirements on time and in compliance with directions
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and records for students.
  • Communicate effectively with transportation personnel/supervisors, students, administration, and parents
  • Exhibit pleasant behavior and project a positive image when dealing with transportation personnel/supervisors, students, peers, administration, and parents
