Position Overview:

The Bus Operator plays a vital role in delivering a safe, reliable, and enjoyable transportation experience for City Sightseeing New Orleans guests. Operating the iconic red double-decker open-top buses, the Bus Operator ensures timely and secure transport along sightseeing routes, charter services, and private tours. This role requires strong driving abilities, adherence to safety regulations, and excellent customer service skills to enhance the overall guest experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include but are not limited to)

Safety & Compliance

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required reports.
  • Monitor passenger safety and enforce onboard policies in a clear and professional manner.
  • Follow all safety and emergency procedures, reporting any incidents promptly.

Vehicle Operation

  • Operate tour buses safely and courteously while adhering to traffic laws.
  • Maintain a smooth and steady pace to match the timing of the guided tour.
  • Follow designated routes and maintain accurate schedules.

Guest Services

  • Greet and assist passengers when boarding and exiting the bus.
  • Verify tickets and ensure all guests have valid passes.
  • Provide general tourist information and respond to guest inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Manage guest complaints and escalate issues when necessary.

Communication & Coordination

  • Work closely with Tour Hosts to synchronize the tour experience.
  • Report vehicle or operational issues to the Route Manager in a timely manner.
  • Maintain open communication with management regarding scheduling or operational concerns.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience driving a bus or passenger vehicle with a 25-person capacity or greater.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger Endorsement.
  • CPNC permit issued by the City of New Orleans.
  • Medical Exam Certificate issued by a DOT approved physician.
  • Knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ability to operate public address systems and fleet monitoring tools.
  • Strong verbal communication skills, including the ability to engage with guests professionally.
  • Customer service experience preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds
