Job description

Duneland School Corporation Substitute Bus Driver

A Duneland School Corporation substitute bus driver is required to operate all school vehicles in a safe and lawful manner. This position has a highly responsible role in transporting and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. Bus drivers interact with individuals both inside and outside of the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior to becoming a Duneland School Corporation bus driver, a valid commercial drivers' license (CDL) is required. This license must be authorized by the State of Indiana. Must be 21 years of age. The following endorsements of said CDL are required: Passenger Endorsement, School Bus Endorsement, Air Brake Endorsement. Duneland will train if necessary.

Principal responsibilities include responding to requests of information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner. Provide an exceptional level of customer service to all students, community members, teachers, co-workers and other staff members (These employees must be assured their needs are met in a professional, friendly and timely manner). Observe safety and security procedures, use equipment and materials properly, and must establish and maintain student discipline in a firm but respectful manner. Transportation Department employees are required to attend all in-service training. Bus drivers must accept all delegated authority and perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor. Substitute drivers are eligible to become Contracted Drivers with benefits.
