Job description

Title:   Part-Time School Bus Aide/Matron

Times: Morning: (6AM- 8AM)/Afternoon (3PM-5PM)
$100/full day


Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, to ensure the safe transportation of students, staff, and others to and from school, residential neighborhoods, and field trips.
 


Basic Function:
Assist school bus driver in ensuring the safety of students by supervising the students while the bus is in operation; assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required; notify transportation coordinator of any behavioral issues. Bus Matron will board the school bus at the school and ride with the students until the last stop of the route. Must obtain background check clearance from NJ Department of Education.


Essential Functions:

1. Maintains discipline on school bus; monitors and assists students while the bus is in operation; maintains proper seating arrangements.

2. Ensures seat belts are being worn by all students riding the bus and assists elementary school children buckle and unbuckle seat belts.

3. Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students.
4. Coordinates seating with school personnel for students with prior behavioral issues.

5. Maintains current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures; assists driver in emergency situations.

6. Maintains regular attendance and notifies Manager of Operations prior to any absences.

7. Boards the bus at the first stop on the morning route and arrives at school no later than 10 minutes before dismissal for the evening route.

8. Reports all injuries, disciplinary issues, and vandalism to Manager of Operations.

9. Check the bus thoroughly after each trip. Look under seats, behind seats and all other areas where view is obstructed to make sure all children have exited the bus and that their belongings are not left on the bus.

10. Distribute notes and information to parents as directed by iLearn Schools-ASCS staff.

11. Ensures no parents or other adults enter or get onto the bus.

12. Performs related duties as assigned.

13. Presents a positive character model for our students and parents.

14. Must be at 21 years of age

15. Able to work in all weather

  • Successful prior experience working as a bus aide, preferably in a school district or transporting children.
