COMPANY MISSION:

Payless Building Supply is a growing local provider to contractors and consumers. We offer a variety of competitively priced building materials and top-notch customer service, in a workplace where safety is everyone’s job.

CONTRIBUTION TO COMPANY MISSION:

The Yard Personnel/Delivery Driver supports our Oroville Lumberyard in two ways. This position is responsible for providing our customers with excellent customer service at the store; answering questions and assisting with the selection of appropriate materials while ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organized yard. This position is also responsible for delivering material to the customer’s location in a safe and timely manner. Our priority is to make their shopping experience at Payless Building Supply a pleasant one.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Yard Personnel:

  • Operate forklift to move, stock, load and unload material
  • Assist customers to help find the materials they need
  • Perform duties in a safe and professional manner, observing safe procedures and being constantly alert to any unsafe working conditions
  • Protect the inventory (i.e. stack properly, cover)
  • Pull products to fill orders for customers
  • Assist truck drivers with unloading of return credit items; place in proper storage location
  • Complete daily forklift inspections prior to using the lift and report any repairs needed to the supervisor
  • Keep work area clean and litter free

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a Delivery Driver:

  • Maintain a current and active commercial driver’s license (Class A or B)
  • Arrive to work in a state that is ready and able to perform safety sensitive duties
  • Make daily inspections of trucks and forklifts
  • Operate standard forklift and truck mounted forklift
  • Keep vehicles clean and orderly
  • Operate all equipment as per safety instructions
  • Pull and load material and hardware per delivery order as required
  • Secure all loads carefully and properly (do not exceed load limits on trucks and forklifts)
  • Review delivery address and material drop locations before you leave the yard
  • Operate computer system to pull orders and invoice when necessary
  • Talk to the customer and make sure their needs have been taken care of

This job description is general in nature and broad in scope. It is intended to be used as a guide. Duties will vary from yard to yard, and employee to employee. The General Manager is to determine each employee’s duties and responsibilities.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY:

  • Valid driver’s license/must be insurable required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Knowledge of lumber and building materials and products preferred
  • Able to read delivery instructions and locations required
  • Computer experience preferred
  • Previous driving experience required
  • Above average math skills preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate required
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission required
  • Truck mounted forklift experience preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel or crouch with manual dexterity
  • Reach overhead to grasp material
  • Climb on and off a forklift repeatedly
  • Walk on uneven surfaces
  • Extreme climate conditions (Summer heat, Winter cold)
