Job description

We are seeking a Building Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of site buildings, grounds, and facility infrastructure at Grande Prairie Lumber. This position is responsible for ensuring company facilities remain safe, functional, clean, and well-maintained while supporting the day-to-day needs of mill operations.

The successful candidate will work with Operations, Maintenance, Safety, and Contractors to coordinate building repairs, preventative maintenance activities, and facility improvement projects.

Position Purpose
To maintain site buildings, grounds, and facility infrastructure in a safe, reliable, and cost-effective manner.
Key Responsibilities
Building & Facility Maintenance
Perform and coordinate maintenance, repair, and upkeep activities for: 
Office buildings
Maintenance shops
Lunchrooms and common areas
Washrooms and change rooms
Roofing systems
Doors, windows, and building structures
Site roads, parking lots, and grounds
Conduct routine inspections and identify repair requirements.
Respond to facility maintenance requests in a timely manner.
Coordinate seasonal maintenance activities such as snow removal and grounds maintenance.

Contractor Coordination
Coordinate and oversee contractors performing facility maintenance and repair work.
Ensure contractor work is completed safely and to required standards.
Obtain and review quotes for facility-related work as required.

Work Management
Create and manage facility-related work orders.
Schedule maintenance activities to minimize disruption to operations.
Maintain records of completed work and facility inspections.

Safety & Compliance
Support building inspections and regulatory compliance activities.
Ensure facility maintenance activities are completed safely and in accordance with company policies.
Identify and address facility-related safety concerns.

Facility Improvements
Assist with planning and coordinating minor building improvement projects.
Recommend repairs and upgrades to maintain building condition and functionality.
Support energy-saving and cost-reduction initiatives where applicable.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
    High School Diploma or GED.
    Experience in building maintenance, construction, facilities maintenance, or a related field.
    Practical knowledge of building systems and general repairs.
    Experience coordinating contractors and service providers.
    Strong organizational and communication skills.
    Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    Commitment to safety and teamwork.
    Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with:
    Building maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
    Trade experience in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or a related field.
    General knowledge of facility systems and building maintenance practices.
    Experience using SAP or other maintenance management systems.
    Knowledge of Grande Prairie Lumber operations.
Success Measures
The Building Maintenance Technician will be measured on:
    Timely completion of facility maintenance work
    Building and grounds condition
    Contractor performance and coordination
    Regulatory and safety compliance
    Cost-effective maintenance execution
    Customer service and support to mill operations
