What are the major job responsibilities?
Teachers facilitate teaching and learning in all settings - whole class, small group, and one-on-one and use multiple resources. The Teacher also acts as an advisor to a small number of students and must be able to work within a youth-centered environment. A successful employee is a consummate professional, upholding the mission, goals and objectives of the organization.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Create a safe, welcoming, organized classroom environment following CEN Model Classroom Guidelines
  • Complete and submit high-quality lesson plans according to provided planning templates and aligned to CEN core curriculum; revise lesson plans as needed based upon feedback from Director of Academics, Directors of STEM or Humanities, or content peers
  • Clearly and frequently communicate student learning goals to students and families; track student progress relative to key content goals
  • Facilitate effective teaching and learning activities daily, aligned to practices outlined in the CEN Teaching and Learning Rubric
  • Complete interim assessment preview and item-level analysis to inform reteach plans
  • Actively participate in routine formative data cycles to inform instruction
  • Score student work and provide growth-based feedback; enter student performance grades into PowerTeacher Pro to inform progress reports and end-of-quarter report cards
  • Co-plan with Intervention Specialists to ensure appropriate differentiation of academic work to meet the needs of all students
  • Support formative, summative, and state-required testing
  • Actively participate in weekly coaching cycles +monthly content support sessions
  • Advise a small number of students on their academic and social-emotional progress
  • Effectively communicate with students, colleagues, parents, and families
  • Implement the school's plans for Family Conferences
  • Ensure care of provided instructional materials, curricula, technology, and classroom furniture
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in education or equivalent + highly-qualified certification in the State of Michigan
  • Proven effectiveness as evidenced by data; experience with trauma-informed teaching strategies
  • Outstanding organizational skills and strong attention to detail; excellent written/verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn and succeed
  • Experience and demonstrated success in designing and delivering social skills lessons
  • Possess the desire and willingness to develop own skill set
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain constructive group relationships.
  • Will successfully pass a criminal background check & drug screen.
