HS Science Teacher

Location: Detroit, MI
Employment Type: Full-Time / 10-Month
Classification: Salaried / Exempt
Salary Range: $47,530 - $66,813 annually

A private Catholic college preparatory high school in Southwest Detroit is seeking a full-time Science Teacher to join its faculty. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about supporting students academically, personally, and professionally while helping prepare them for success in college and beyond.

The school serves a diverse student population and provides a rigorous, personalized curriculum integrated with a corporate work-study experience. Faculty and staff play a key role in building meaningful relationships with students and supporting their growth in a structured, mission-driven learning environment.

Position Overview

The Science Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging science instruction, assessing student progress, maintaining a positive classroom environment, and collaborating with faculty and staff to support student success.

Full-time teaching assignments include teaching six classes daily, administering one duty period, and utilizing one assigned preparation period. Duty periods may include study hall, lunch duty, assisting another teacher, or substitute coverage when needed.

The Science Teacher will collaborate with other subject-area teachers to ensure curriculum alignment and continuity, while also working with faculty across departments to share best practices, support consistent student expectations, and strengthen academic outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop engaging curriculum materials, including annual plans, lesson plans, and course syllabi
  • Utilize network benchmarks to support course planning and instruction
  • Deliver science instruction in a high school classroom setting
  • Frequently assess student work and provide meaningful feedback
  • Track, document, and communicate student academic progress
  • Communicate professionally with students, parents, faculty, and school leadership
  • Submit weekly lesson plans
  • Prepare for and lead Parent Teacher Conferences three times per year
  • Attend faculty meetings and required school events
  • Develop and maintain a classroom management strategy that supports discipline, structure, and a positive classroom atmosphere
  • Use the online grading system to manage student grades and performance records
  • Offer an extracurricular activity during flex time
  • Attend morning assembly beginning at 7:15 AM
  • Collaborate with academic leadership, student support staff, and work-study team members to support student success
  • Support school initiatives that enhance academic performance and student development

Schedule

The school year runs from August through June.

  • Teacher orientation begins in mid-August
  • School year concludes in mid-June
  • Morning assembly begins at 7:15 AM
  • Classes begin at 7:45 AM
  • Classes end at 3:30 PM

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in the subject matter
  • Teaching certification required
  • Highly Qualified status preferred
  • Experience in a high school classroom environment or equivalent experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with student database systems preferred
