Job description

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Building Maintenance Associate supports the day-to-day upkeep, safety, and functionality of ALMAG's buildings and property. This hands-on role performs a wide range of general maintenance tasks across multiple trade areas at a small to moderate scope. The ideal candidate is resourceful, dependable, and comfortable working independently and takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient workplace. This role requires someone who is willing to step in wherever needed and contribute to the overall success of the operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The duties and responsibilities of the POSITION are detailed below, but not limited to the following:

  • ย Perform general building maintenance, including minor repairs to doors, entryways, fixtures, and interior spaces
  • Maintain and repair washroom fixtures and accessories
  • Complete preventative maintenance (PM) tasks on facility equipment as assigned
  • Conduct routine inspections of critical building systems and report deficiencies
  • Operate and maintain facility equipment such as floor scrubbers and other custodial tools
  • Assist with furniture assembly, workspace setups, and light carpentry tasks
  • Perform painting and surface touch-ups as required
  • Utilize hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
  • Support small projects and facility improvements across multiple buildings
  • Maintain the external area of the facility by picking up garbage, clearing snow, and other duties as needed
  • Maintain clean, organized mechanical and storage areas
  • Identify maintenance concerns proactively and take appropriate action
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned tasks efficiently
  • Collaborate with the Facilities team and other departments to support operational needs
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a team-first attitude - stepping in wherever necessary to support site success
  • Fabricate various fixtures and guards where needed
  • Monitor, maintain, and replace office and plant lighting
  • Oversee and manage the roof conditions and drainage
  • Conduct routine checks and maintenance of sprinkler systems and emergency exits
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Minimum Grade 10 education or equivalentย 
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of general maintenance or building support experience preferred
  • Technical training, or hands-on experience in any skilled trade, is considered a strong assetย  ย 

Technical Skills/Competence

  • Must be able to follow a defined set of tasks and see them through to completion
  • Ability to problem-solve various issues and define a suitable solution
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable standing, walking, bending, and climbing throughout the shift
  • Capable of working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
  • Demonstrated ability to safely use hand and power tools
  • Basic mechanical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and operate independently
