Join our Indianapolis facilities team as the Building Engineer, where you'll serve as the technical cornerstone for a dynamic portfolio of several commercial properties. This position combines hands-on building systems expertise with leadership responsibility, providing you with the opportunity to drive operational excellence while assisting and leading a maintenance team. As the primary technical authority you can help ensure seamless facility operations, optimize building performance through BMS technology, and maintain the high standards that JLL clients expect. This role offers the perfect blend of technical challenge, leadership development, and portfolio-level impact for an experienced building professional ready to elevate their career.

What your day-to-day will look like

  • Perform comprehensive maintenance operations across several Indianapolis commercial buildings, including routine inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, breakdown repair, and system diagnostics for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

  • Monitor and optimize critical building systems including cooling towers, air compressors, fire panels, water treatment operations, and Building Management Systems (BMS) for real-time control and efficiency

  • Serve as Building Engineer by coordinating maintenance team activities, prioritizing work orders, and providing technical guidance to ensure efficient completion of daily tasks

  • Manage relationships with external contractors and specialized vendors, scheduling services and coordinating complex repairs to minimize downtime

  • Maintain detailed maintenance logs and documentation while efficiently managing computerized work order systems to track all facility activities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve urgent mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues using systematic diagnostic approaches and technical expertise

  • Provide after-hours on-call emergency support, possibly responding to rotational on call schedule for critical facility situations requiring immediate technical intervention

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5-7 years of commercial building maintenance experience with demonstrated technical proficiency across mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems

  • Proven expertise in plumbing systems (repair, installation, diagnostics), electrical troubleshooting, and cooling tower operations for commercial facilities

  • Hands-on experience with air compressor systems, fire panel systems, general carpentry, and water processing/treatment programs

  • Proficiency with Building Management Systems (BMS), facility automation platforms, and computerized work order management systems (Corrigo experience a plus)

  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to quickly learn new facility management software platforms

  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation for multi-site portfolio responsibilities

  • Leadership experience in technical environments with communication skills for effective interaction with tenants, vendors, and teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade certifications in electrical, plumbing, or HVAC disciplines demonstrating specialized technical credentials

  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification and OSHA safety certifications

  • Previous experience managing facilities within commercial real estate or corporate environments

  • Portfolio management experience coordinating maintenance operations across multiple buildings simultaneously

  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, work in varied environmental conditions (mechanical rooms, rooftops, basements), and perform tasks at heights using ladders
