Job description

We are seeking a talented and experienced Architect/Building Designer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in designing homes for small lots, a deep understanding of Houstonโ€™s building codes and permitting processes, and the ability to collaborate with customers to make minor customizations to build-on-lot homes or homes sold early in the sales process. Strong interpersonal skills and experience interacting with customers are essential. This individual will work closely with company principals, the interior design team, and project coordinators to deliver sophisticated, high-quality designs efficiently and effectively. Familiarity with Chief Architect software is a plus.


Responsibilities
1. Design and Development

  • Create architectural designs for homes on small lots (25โ€“90 feet wide) that meet Houstonโ€™s building codes, density requirements, and neighborhood-specific guidelines.
  • Develop designs that align with Mazzarinos luxury urban aesthetic, spanning a variety of styles from traditional to contemporary.
  • Collaborate with principals, the interior design team, and project coordinators to ensure a seamless integration of design elements.
  • Work directly with customers purchasing build-on-lot homes or homes sold early in the construction process to accommodate minor customizations, ensuring their preferences are incorporated while maintaining timelines and budgets.

2. Customer Interaction

  • Engage with customers to understand and interpret their design needs and preferences.
  • Provide professional guidance to help customers make selections or minor design modifications.
  • Deliver a positive, personalized customer experience while maintaining alignment with company processes and standards.

3. Permitting and Code Compliance

  • Navigate the City of Houstonโ€™s permitting process to ensure timely approvals.
  • Interact with City of Houston plan checkers to address and resolve comments on plan revisions.
  • Stay updated on local codes, ordinances, and density regulations to ensure compliance.

4. Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with project coordinators to ensure alignment with timelines, budgets, and customer expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with principals, design teams, and customers to ensure clarity and satisfaction at every stage of the design process.
  • Provide support to internal teams to facilitate a smooth design and construction workflow.

  • Deep knowledge of the City of Houston building codes, permitting processes, and density requirements.
  • Proven ability to design a wide range of home styles, from traditional to contemporary.
