CITY OF WILMER, TEXAS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
BUILDING OFFICIAL
POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Wilmer is seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Building Official to oversee the City's building inspection, permitting, plan review, and code enforcement functions related to construction. The Building Official is responsible for ensuring compliance with adopted building codes and assisting residents, contractors, developers, and business owners throughout the permitting process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
· Administer and enforce adopted International Building Codes and applicable City ordinances.
· Review building permit applications and construction documents for code compliance.
· Coordinate and perform or oversee residential and commercial building inspections.
· Issue permits, certificates of occupancy, and related approvals.
· Interpret building codes and provide technical guidance to contractors, architects, engineers, and the public.
· Maintain accurate permit, inspection, and code compliance records.
· Work closely with the Fire Marshal, Planning, Public Works, and City Administration.
· Respond to citizen inquiries regarding construction and development requirements.
· Assist with code updates and recommend improvements to permitting processes.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field preferred.
· Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspections, construction, code enforcement, or plan review.
· Knowledge of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, and related model codes.
· Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
· Valid Texas driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· State of Texas Building Official certification or ICC Building Official certification.
· ICC certifications in building inspection, plan review, or related disciplines.
· Experience working for a municipal government.
· Familiarity with permitting and inspection management software.
