Job description

This is a Range 5 position on day shift. This job will close 9/10/2026.
US Synthetic has an immediate need for a Machine Build Technician II located in Orem, UT. The Machine Build Technician II will handle equipment restoration, new machine fabrication, and electrical panel wiring.

What You Will Do:
  • Participate effectively as a member on a team
  • Communicate information well to others using verbal or electronic mediums
  • Identify some equipment failure modes and suggest ideas for improvements; implement accepted improvements
  • Clean and paint machine bases
  • Perform electrical wiring and troubleshooting
  • Responsible for continual process improvements to reduce the time required for machine rebuilds
  • Complete assignments with original thinking and ingenuity to better solve problems
  • Work occasionally overtime
  • Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Key Responsibilities
  • Equipment Restoration: Tear down used machinery, diagnose failures, and rebuild mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Custom Fabrication: Build OEM machines from scratch, manage bills of materials, order parts, and operate CNC machinery to modify components.
  • Electrical Assembly: Layout components, wire electrical panels, and cut enclosures for cabling.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of hands-on experience in machine building, repair, and troubleshooting or an associate degree or technical certificate in robotics, automation, or machine design/build may substitute for some experience.

Physical Demands
  • Stand for eight hours
  • Work with hands for eight hours
  • Bending, crouching, kneeling, etc.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Use PPE (Safety Glasses, Steel-toed boots, Face shield, Ear plugs, Respirator, Rubber or mechanic gloves)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Machining: Proficiency with mill and lathe operations; machinist training preferred.
  • Systems & Diagnostics:
    • Ability to read schematics
    • Basic understanding of PLCs
    • Troubleshoot equipment failures.
  • Design & Logistics:
    • Experience with 3D modeling/CAD software (Creo/Windchill)
    • Managing Bills of Materials (BOM).
  • Finishing: Basic spray-painting experience.
  • Software: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
