Budtenders are generally not permitted to be under the influence of cannabis or other substances while working, as it can impair judgment and customer service. Most dispensaries have strict policies requiring employees to remain sober during shifts and may conduct drug tests to ensure compliance with legal and safety standards.

Getting hired as a budtender can vary depending on location and the number of available positions, but generally, it requires good customer service skills, knowledge of cannabis products, and sometimes a background check or certification. Customer service skills and understanding of local laws are essential for this role.
