Job description

OverviewThe internship will be a hands-on experience. The intern will be assigned properties to post journal entries, analyze the financial statements, and publish the monthly financial statements. The intern will also be working on accounting related projects as needed. These assignments will include assisting with calculating performance returns for the investment real estate portfolio and working on a variety of tasks in the mortgage loan accounting system. These assignments will provide the opportunity to broaden the knowledge of accounting relative to both real estate investments and mortgage loans.ResponsibilitiesWhat you will do:
  • Thoroughly analyze asset, liability and equity accounts each month for an assigned portfolio of properties. Produce accurate monthly balance sheets for each property in a timely manner. Prepare supporting schedules as appropriate.
  • Review revenue and expense accounts each month for assigned properties. Investigate material variances between actual performance and budget. Examine underlying vendor invoices and other supporting documentation as appropriate. Produce accurate monthly income / operating statements for each property in a timely manner. Prepare supporting schedules as appropriate.
  • Provide accurate and timely responses to accounting and financial questions.
  • Participate in meetings with other accounting professionals of the Enterprise to understand how various real estate investments are accounted for.
  • Demonstrate Excel and financial analysis skills on assigned projects.
  • Assist with calculating performance returns for the investment real estate portfolio.
  • Record transactions in the mortgage loan accounting system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Third or fourth-year accounting student. - Required
  • Working knowledge of accounting and generally accepted accounting principles. -
  • Able to learn quickly accounting software applications. -
  • Demonstrated successful experience in problem-solving situations. -
  • Possesses and displays excellent verbal and written communication skills. -
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously and complete assigned tasks accurately and on a timely basis. -
  • Able to cite examples of self-motivation and experience working under limited supervision. -
  • Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying and quantifying problems and providing effective resolutions. -
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel software, including advanced functions. -
Work Setting/Position Demands:
  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
  • Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Performs substantial movement of wrists, hands, and fingers for continuous computer work.
  • Extended hours required during peak workloads or special projects/events.
