Job description


Position Summary
The CAD Site Plan Designer supports community planning for GL Homes by creating conceptual and detailed site layouts. This role requires strong knowledge of site planning and design principles, with the ability to independently produce plans and collaborate effectively with planners, architects, and engineers on residential and commercial developments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Planning residential, commercial, mixed-use, and urban redevelopment projects.
  • Create and iterate concept site plans using CAD software, including bubble diagrams, preliminary layouts, and design alternatives.
  • Interpret project requirements, zoning regulations, and site constraints to produce code compliant, practical, efficient and creative site designs with minimal supervision.
  • Collaborate with the planning and design team to incorporate feedback and ensure plans align with overall community vision.
  • Analyze site data, including topography, utilities, and environmental factors, to inform design decisions.
  • Prepare presentation materials, such as rendered plans and diagrams, for internal reviews and stakeholder meetings.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices, software updates, and Florida-specific land development regulations.
  • Assist in reviewing and revising existing site plans as needed for project evolution.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Drafting, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CAD/Drafting certification may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • 3+ years of AutoCAD experience in site planning for residential and commercial developments

Experience and Skills
Skills & Abilities:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software; experience with GIS tools and SketchUp or other rendering program is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of practical and high-yielding site plan design principles, including lot layout, road geometry, site drainage, and open space integration.
  • Ability to work independently and produce high-quality concept plans quickly and within deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Florida building codes, zoning laws, and land development processes and the ability to interpret codes of various jurisdictions.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and visual communication abilities.
