Senior Visuals Editor, Vanity Fair
The Senior Visual Editor is responsible for curating and producing innovative visual content across platforms (including social, video, digital, print, experiential) that meets brand integrity and production quality standards, while remaining on schedule and on budget. The successful candidate will have excellent editorial judgment and a strong ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once. A broad knowledge of industry teams and connections is also a must (i.e. strong relationships with agencies, photographers, stylists, studios, etc.)
This position is based in NYC and reports to the Visuals Director of Vanity Fair.
  • Help lead all aspects of photo shoot production primarily for FOB, well features, covers and special projects-from commissioning teams and liaising with vendors to ensuring that the shoot is successful and falls within budget.
  • Help conceive digital-first photo strategies and assist with visual direction for print-to-web production. Secure multimedia and video assets for digital crops, social platforms, BTS content, videos, etc.
  • Regularly review portfolios and proactively build relationships with agencies and photographers to unearth new talent.
  • Curate photographer lists and create visual mood boards.
  • Create and maintain timelines, schedules, budgets, shot-lists, call sheets, and other production documents-proactively sharing and communicating this information to all key stakeholders throughout the project.
  • Lead on-set coordination: can lead a crew through a shot list in a timely manner, problem-solve when issues arise on set, and communicate clearly to help ensure the visual direction is executed successfully.
  • Partner with colleagues to ensure appropriate synergy across photo and video production.
  • Potential collaboration across markets.
  • Liaise across departments and act as coordinating producer with editorial, design, social, video, web design and production-for Vanity Fair's tentpole and special projects such as Hollywood issue, Oscars, among others.
  • Conceptualize, produce, oversee and travel to VF's signature portrait studios and video studios for film festivals and awards season-such as TIFF, Cannes, NYFF, Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmy's, among others.
  • Manage content production budgets, as assigned,including negotiating rates with outside vendors. Exercise sound judgment in when to escalate to Visuals Director and Deputy Editor.
  • Ensure all invoices are tracked and processed in a timely manner and that jobs are wrapped accurately and efficiently.
  • Secure contracts, photo fees, and usage rights for all images (produced and researched), in partnership with CN legal and business affairs teams.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • 5-7+ years work experience in photo/visual production and photo editing, magazine experience strongly preferred, with a growing book of contacts for agencies, photographers, stylists, studios, etc.
  • Experience leading complex, talent based editorial shoots, navigating strong personalities with grace.
  • Passion for current events and visual culture along with a strong foundation in art history.
  • A highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Strong editorial judgment with demonstrated experience developing visual stories across platforms, using detailed understanding of platform requirements.
  • Highly organized, detail oriented, and excellent communication skills.
  • Collaborative with the ability to navigate multiple stakeholders' inputs, opinions, and decision-making styles.
  • A work-style that balances entrepreneurial spirit with operational rigor.
  • Ability to travel for various assignments and shoots.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $88,000-$113,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
